All right everybody! Here comes the next of Wookieepedia's semi-regular Barn-burners. With this project, we aim to tackle droids, a topic on the Wook that perhaps does not get the attention of some other parts. Also, there are many other articles related to droids that you can work on, such as droid designers, droid manufacturers, and droid accessories. So go out and find a droid-related article that you like and bring out those article writing skills, because we are ready to roll!
Two famous droidsFor anyone here who does not know what Barn-burners are, they are Wookieepedia's way of improving articles related to a topic or source and promoting the improved articles to CA, GA, and FA status. With the topic of droids we are attempting to combine the ideas of our-highly successful original Wookiee Barn-burner and our even more successful Weapon barn burner. We can write articles on droids, droid accessories, droid manufacturers, and even people who designed droids. So good luck to all of you on finding articles for your nominations and lets do our best to make this the most successful barn burner yet.
Whenever you nominate an article related to the project, please enter the information in the table below so that we can keep track of it. Please also remember to review other's nominations so that we can bring as many articles to status as possible.
Does anyone have the Star Wars: Droids cartoon DVD Treasure of the Hidden Planet? I can't seem to find my copy. I'm curious how the subtitles refer to Lin-D, the comedian droid from the episode "Across the Roon Sea" (which should start around 44 minutes into the DVD film, with Lin-D's part about 15 minutes past the start of the episode). I've never seen the name written elsewhere, and I'm suspicious of the title here on the Wook. Can anyone help? Thanks, ~Savage 22:43, April 29, 2012 (UTC)
It's Lin-D on the subtitles. Green Tentacle(Talk) 23:18, April 29, 2012 (UTC)
Great! Thanks for checking. ~Savage 00:55, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
It merely mentions him in the GE3-series protocol droid entry as an example for the name by which droids of the GE3 model went by. Here is the text: "Thought technically all GE3-series droids share the same suffix to their names (GE3), most shorten their designation to contain only their unique identifier; thus a protocol droid whose full designation would be S-0D3-GE3 would drop the GE3 and would go by only S-0D3." (From the Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide, page 83)--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 22:49, May 18, 2012 (UTC)
Sure, but before you do, there's a few things I caught. Describing the Trade federation as greedy is kinda POV, and the Jedi will need context in the description secion. A good article otherwise, ready to nom. 501stdogma(talk) 12:06, June 14, 2012 (UTC)
This section is for general discussion about the project:
Just want to make sure I'm doing this right. Although there's nothing in the Layout Guide, precedent seems to be that articles about droid types have a "Description" section followed by a "History" section, while articles about individual droids have a "Biography" section then a "Characteristics" section. Sound about right? Menkooroo 05:07, April 29, 2012 (UTC)
There does not seem to be a universal format for the droid articles, but that setup seems like a good one to me.--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 14:15, April 29, 2012 (UTC)
I still don't like the "Description" and "History" breakdown for droid type articles. Droids are not just like vehicles or weapons; they have personalities and behavioral patterns, much like sentient species. Lumping that under "Description" is a bit weird, in my book. But there is no community-approved layout guide for droid types, unfortunately. Tm T and I talked about hashing one out a while ago, but nothing became of it due to real-life commitments. Wonder if this might be the time? ~Savage 22:46, April 29, 2012 (UTC)
I guess we should come up with something. What sections do you suggest that we use?--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 00:53, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
With May one day away, it's a bit too late to get an approved layout guide in time for the barn burner, so it's best if we follow precedent for now, anyway. No reason that "Description" can't be further subdivided, though. Menkooroo 01:02, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
My main suggestion would be to add a "Role" header, like the layout guide for starship and vehicle class articles. The layout would go "Description" (for physical description, equipment, etc.), "Role" (for programming, functionality, personality, etc.), and "History" (for the development of the model and for the stories of any notable units. Lacking any CT, I hate to just default to precedent, since precedent has never had to face community consensus. A CT for a layout guide might be a good idea to run concurrently, at any rate, since the community's mind will be on droids for the period. ~Savage 02:15, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
This seems like a good format to me, so since there is not any set way of sectioning I will use this layout for my articles.--—Unsigned comment byExiledjedi (talk • contribs). 02:33, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
Whrr is not seen by anyone in his appearences, but Boba hears wirring and clicking as Whrr does stuff, and figures Whrr's a droid. Would it be acceptable if I promoted Whrr to a status article as a droid using Boba's figuring as my only proof that Whrr's a droid? I would have to put something in the BtS about the figuring, but can I go ahead with it? 501stdogma(talk) 20:44, May 2, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd say that as long as you explain what suppositions you've made, you should be OK. Explain them in the BTS section. It's probably also worth noting how it is Boba interacted with the droid if he never saw it, since the article as it stands now is very confusing. Good luck! ~Savage 20:55, May 2, 2012 (UTC)
Here is a template I have created for the barn-burner. Any thoughts or comments?--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 22:56, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
— Look, sir, droids. SH:Project Droids: Wookieepedia's Fourth Barn-Burner! was nominated and gained status as part of Wookieepedia's fourth "Barn-burner," focusing on articles related to droids. The barn-burner ran during May and June2012.
I like it. It could use some colour, though. Menkooroo 01:31, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
How about a non-blue color? :P We already had a blue-themed one for weapons. Perhaps yellow, orange, purple, pink, brown, black, or gray? MasterFred(Whatever) 03:27, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
Honestly? No offense, but "ugh". How about yellow? (BTW, I fixed the error that was causing the majority of the template to show up white.) —MJ—ComlinkMonday, April 30, 2012, 04:05 UTC
Well, here is a yellow one. I am sorry but my aesthetic abilities are less than wonderful.--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 04:09, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
I'd sugest a dimmer version of yellow or something more suggestive of metal maybe. Maybe FFFF66, FFCC00, CCCC00, or CCCC66? ~Savage 13:56, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Bob, CCCC66 is the type of yellow/gold color I was looking for. How is everyone with this color?--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 16:01, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
I think it could use an action shot instead of them standing around. Somthing like R2 flying about in AOTC or ROTS? NaruHinaTalk 16:33, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
Sure. :) I like the constrast. "Look, sir, droids. THEY'RE DESTROYING EVERYTHING." —Unsigned comment byNaruHina (talk • contribs).
Sorry. Been kinda busy. I love it. Great work! Now maybe this week will hurry up and I can get to writing. MasterFred(Whatever) 01:00, May 2, 2012 (UTC)
I actually liked the 3PO and R2 one better; this one you can't really tell what's going on since R2's so small. I uploaded a cropped version to the template and then reverted myself; feel free to use the crop if you prefer, EJ. ~Savage 20:53, May 2, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Bob, it looks better with the cropped image.--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 21:45, May 2, 2012 (UTC)
Each of the degrees should still have their own articles, I think. ~Savage 13:32, May 3, 2012 (UTC)
Not having those articles confused the heck out of me the other day when I was trying to link to it. Corellian PremierAll along the watchtower 14:51, May 3, 2012 (UTC)
I'm curious of how far we are taking the scope of this. Would The Wrath of IG-88 be considered part of the barn burner? OLIOSTER(talk) 16:41, May 3, 2012 (UTC)
Per the discussion above, I've proposed a layout guide for droids and droid models here. It probably won't see its way to policy during the lifespan of this BB, but I invite everyone to stop by and help draft it! ~Savage 18:39, May 12, 2012 (UTC)
Does anyone think that we should extend the barn-burner into June in order to provide a larger window for the people who said they were busy in May?--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 12:28, May 22, 2012 (UTC)
I do. In fact, I think future barn burners should last for two months instead of one. OLIOSTER(talk) 16:42, May 22, 2012 (UTC)
I agree. If it's extended, I'll probally have time to expand and nominate 11-4D. 501stdogma(talk) 14:51, May 26, 2012 (UTC)
I agree. I haven't been able to edit hardly at all here recently, so June would make things easier. MasterFred(Whatever) 22:39, May 28, 2012 (UTC)
All right then, since we have three votes in favor and none opposed, I have decided to extend the barn-burner through June.--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 02:47, May 31, 2012 (UTC)
Since you extended it, you will have to add that to the Droid barnburner template. Currently it says it only ran in May. 501stdogma(talk) 16:02, June 10, 2012 (UTC)
I've only discoverd this barn burner now (In July) so could someone tell me if it's still going.--Commander Code-8 (talk) 02:20, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
Uh... no? That's kind of why it says May and June. CadeCalrayn 04:33, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
Cade, there's no need to be rude when someone asks a harmless and honest question. Commander Code-8: The barn-burner is finished, but if you still want to write a droid article, no one will mind. :) And we'll probably have another one in a few months! Menkooroo (talk) 04:37, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
Wow, sorry. I'm totaly exhausted. I tend to snap at people when I have to mop the stupid docks and almost cleanup throwup. Luckily, i passed that job onto someone else. Seriously, who throws up while watching the movie Ted? CadeCalrayn 05:02, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
