Hi everyone, it’s that time again — we’re on the eve of a new Star Wars film release, so it’s time for a reminder about the wiki’s spoiler policies. There are two key points:
- Information, footage, images, etc found in official pre-release material (trailers, TV spots, interviews, etc) are allowed as long as the article they are in is marked with the appropriate spoiler template.
- Information that can only be obtained by watching the film (or reading/viewing leaks from the film) may not be posted until midnight Hawaiian time, which is the latest US time zone, on the day of the US release. Midnight in Hawaii on Friday, May 25th is 3am Pacific, 6am Eastern, 11am in London, etc.
There will ultimately be people unfamiliar with these policies who will be adding information prior to the acceptable time. I have to stress: more and more people are screening the film, so if you are looking at Recent Changes as of today then you are at risk for being spoiled. If you don’t want to be spoiled by articles being updated you may not expect to see getting updates, or don’t want to know plot details, or whatever it might be, it’s time to log off Wookieepedia until you’ve seen the film.
And if you don’t want spoilers, stop reading this forum page now.
If you are comfortable with spoilers, however, then continue reading this section since we’re going to get into page protection which may include spoilers.
Page protection[]
I’ve seen the film, so there are a lot of pages I know that I can protect until release (like we did for The Last Jedi). I will make an initial list this afternoon, do the page protection, and then post the list here. Once I’ve done that, if you think I’ve missed anything important then please post them here. Please wait until I’ve done that before posting here, though. Thanks. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 18:49, May 23, 2018 (UTC)
- Protections are done, though I've opted not to post the list here since the page protection was done by bots and I don't want to openly post spoilers. If anything else comes up we can protect it as needed. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 22:00, May 23, 2018 (UTC)
- What about Millennium Falcon? I haven't seen the film - I don't actually know anything, but that seems like a likely choice to me. ProfessorTofty (talk) 17:05, May 24, 2018 (UTC)
- Done. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 17:07, May 24, 2018 (UTC)

I find all that spoilerphobia such a funny thing... Especially for the Disneyish Star Wars movies, with their predictable plots. If one is afraid of catching some spoilers, he may just stay away from Wookie until he watches it, huh? 128.127.99.108
- We also want to provide people with the opportunity to continue checking the wiki up until the day of release, so people who aren't as familiar with the franchise as we are can catch up and refresh their memories without fear of being spoiled before the movie is actually out. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 14:03, May 25, 2018 (UTC)
