Hi everyone! What I'm going to ask here might be a little confusing, but bear with me. As some of you might know, I've recently been working on many SWG articles (mostly characters at the moment). I'm trying to get at least some basic info on all of the characters for the time being, but I've hit a bit of a snag.
My question involves three characters, tied to an old Rebel quest chain in SWG. These series of quests were later replaced by an updated version of Rebel quests, but I'm doing my best to add as much info regarding them as possible. The characters in question are tied to three quests linked to this series of Rebel quests. I'll refer to them as quests A, B, and C.
Quest A: Player is tasked with rescuing a Rebel cell leader, named Taergle. The quest dialogue mentions he is male, but does not mention his species. Indeed, his species would randomly generate when player's ran this quest (such was the case with many, but not all old quests in SWG). Meaning he could appear as anything from a human to a mon calamari.
Quest B: Player is tasked with rescuing a woman named Deasie A'Fresel, who is mentioned in this quest to actually be with the wife of the previous person, Taergle. Unlike Taergle, Deasie would consistently appear as a Twi'lek (due to the spawn template she was placed under), but her gender would be randomized. Her article assumes that the female Twi'lek depiction is canon, as the quest dialogue mentions her to be a woman.
Quest C: Things get a little more confusing here though. This quest asks players to rescue an ISB Officer named Tennelt. Though his appearance would be randomized, two screenshots depict him to be a Human. Given that he was an ISB Officer, being a Human male would seem to make sense. Yet, the quest says that he was the brother of Deasie A'Fresel (the previous quest character, and the wife of Taergle).
I guess I just want to know what species I should list these 3 people as, without delving too much into fanon/speculation. If Tennelt was depicted as the Human ISB Officer male brother of Deasie A'Fresel, then Deasie A'Fresel must be a Human (despite her consistently spawning as a Twi'lek, which may just be a game mechanic limitation) too then, right? And if that's the case, would her husband (Taergle), be a Human as well?
Sorry if this was... very confusing. But SWG did a poor job with consistency, especially in its earlier quests. StarsiderSWG 15:38, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
- It's my understanding that Galaxies canonicity is defined as everything that was consistently depicted across all servers at all times. In the situations you're describing, the variation you mention would negate Tennelt's species as a fixed point of fact. It would be an assumption to state that only humans worked for ISB, and an assumption that siblings must be of the same species, unless the quest specifically mentions their blood relation. Indeed, since we now know Twi'leks and humans can interbreed, all bets are off on that count. In short, if Deasie is always a Twi'lek, then that is what she is. If Tennelt is potentially a different species each time, we don't know what he is (until another source locks it down). DD97Which bear is best? 16:11, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, and Taergle could be anything. DD97Which bear is best? 16:18, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
- Good info, I'd be inclined to agree that Taergle needn't necessarily be the same species as Deasie in order to be married to her (especially since players of different species could marry each other in the game).
I think what I'll do is say that the species of Taergle and Tennelt is unknown, but that Deasie is definitely a Twi'lek, and simply explain the varying possibilities in the BTS. Thanks.
One last thing though, sort of unrelated, but tied to one of these articles. If a character was an Imperial, and then defected to the Rebellion, should the Rebellion info box be used? Or should the Imperial one be used, or a generic character one? StarsiderSWG 16:19, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
- Rebellion infobox. Infoboxes should be the character's latest-known affiliation. For example, someone who served the Rebellion, the New Republic, and later the Galactic Alliance gets a Galactic Alliance infobox. Menkooroo 05:52, June 6, 2012 (UTC)
- Another thought, SS: rather than simply saying that the species of these characters is unknown due to the nature of the game, could you explicitly name the species they could be? This will avoid a problem we're having with another forum thread, Forum:SH:Conjectural species. By that I mean that these folks' species is not totally unknown; each of them was one of Mon Calamari, Twi'lek, Human, and whatever else the SWG possibilities were. ~Savage 11:33, June 7, 2012 (UTC)
- It might be possible, but it would be rather difficult. It seems the Devs used certain templates for these characters, depending on the quest... for example, "entertainer templates" which spawn Twi'leks or Humans, CorSec templates which spawn only Humans, and other templates which could spawn anything from Aqualish to Twi'leks. It does seem there's a limited range on what a randomly generated quest character could appear as. You usually wouldn't see a character spawn as a Wookiee or Ithorian for example, unless it was specifically designated as such for the quest. I may be able to list a number of possible species though, according to the TRE files and any known screenshots. StarsiderSWG 23:08, June 7, 2012 (UTC)
