Forums > Senate Hall > SH:Take a look at Wookieepedia's first custom video - the Battle of Scarif

As many of you know, FANDOM is now producing video content for wikis. Brandon Rhea has outlined the project before. Some of you may have seen videos around the site, such as trailers on appropriate film and video game pages. We are now proud to announce that the first custom video produced for Wookieepedia is now live on the Battle of Scarif article. This video was written and produced by FANDOM staff specially for use on Wookieepedia. Check out the video and let us know what you think! - Sir Cavalier of OneFarStar(Squadron channel) 11:29, May 22, 2017 (UTC)

  • Thanks, Cav, for writing the script! The video's great. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 22:43, May 22, 2017 (UTC)
    • The video itself is pretty cool, but I can't help but to notice the seemingly low resolution. There seems to be no option to change resolution in the video player itself. 1358 (Talk) 12:23, May 23, 2017 (UTC)
      • We're getting ready to release an update to our player (which is a third party service) that improves video quality. But it's correct that there is no resolution adjuster a la YouTube. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 22:24, May 23, 2017 (UTC)
  • I was close to asking where the video was, until I checked out the project link and discovered that I have to first change my skin from "Monobook" to "Wikia". Oh well. Posting this here just in case someone other than me got flummoxed trying to see the vids.  [ pepoluan talk ] 08:31, June 1, 2017 (UTC)
    • I only just now had a chance to watch, but good stuff - thanks! Really nice to see custom content like this being made, especially as more and more people are engaging with video on sites like this. Definitely hope to see more like it for The Last Jedi. I even learned a couple of things from the video. Any chance we might see a caption/subtitle option on these in the future? I always prefer to have those if possible. The text-tips are nice, but I mean full captions/subtitles for the audio. ProfessorTofty (talk) 04:39, June 7, 2017 (UTC)
  • Very cool. I really like how the video incorporates character lines from the movies. However, some things I noticed was that the narrator's voice-over quality was a bit poor. I could tell it wasn't as crisp and clear as it could be. I could hear some popping on the s's and p's and it sounded a bit muffled. Additionally I feel like the video should be more visually engaging. Most of it is just clips we've seen from the movie. For example, instead of simply mentioning how General Anton Merrick led the Rebel attack in white text, the video could interact with the announcer and go something like, "see that man? That's General Anton Merrick, he led Alliance Blue and Red Squadrons in their attack on the shield gate." It might make the video more "engaging" and make it seem more "organic." Kinda like the narrator is reacting to what's on the screen and having a conversation with the audience. Also, having some sort of background for the white text to sit on would make it much easier on the eyes. I had a hard time reading the text when it was up against a bright background like the sandy beaches. Overall I really like where this is going, but I think some more work should be done on the presentation and quality of videos for the time being. I'm very excited to see where this goes. - Icon Faction ImperialCommander Boots 05:46, June 7, 2017 (UTC)
