First off, I have copies in hand now of both the original version of What is a Wookiee? and the 2015 issue, and there is no doubt anymore that the reissue is intended to be canon. Besides the fact that it has the Disney logo on the cover, there is clearly nothing inside that is at all related to stuff that only existed in the old Expanded Universe. There are many pages of new content and the clincher is that the copyright page lists the members of the Lucasfilm Story Group - Rayne Roberts, Pablo Hidalgo and Leland Chee. The new content includes stuff such as more info about C-3PO, a menu for Dex's Diner and a primer on "How to Choose the Perfect Droid." Additionally, other minor changes have been made, such as C-3PO saying "I hope you have enjoyed learning about the creatures in my galaxy," instead of "I hope you have enjoyed learning about the creatures in Star Wars," making the title more in-universe. So the question now, what to do, what to do? I can see three ways of handling this:
Option 1 - my preferred solution - treat it like the films. A canon banner is displayed at the top of the page, but the item is treated as a Source for both Legends and Canon. However, it should only be treated as a Legends source for material that appeared in the Legends book and anything that is exclusive to the Canon book should only be sourced on Canon pages.
Option 2 - Create new pages at Name of DK Reference book/Canon and source canon pages to the new page. These would be our first real-world, out-of-universe articles to use the new tabs system.
Option 3 - Create new pages, but don't use the tabs system. Instead, distinguish them by either the date or with Disney in parenthesis.
I agree, better to not add in the complication of trying to work the tabs system for something it isn't already being used for. ProfessorTofty (talk) 00:21, March 20, 2015 (UTC)
3 is definitely the better option, the 1st would simply be confusing. As for the second, I don't like the idea of the tab system being used for an OOU article, as canon/legends is a term applied to IU content. Is this something that needs to be CT'd? Manoof (talk) 06:12, March 20, 2015 (UTC)
No, because we're not creating a policy here. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 07:02, March 20, 2015 (UTC)
And since there doesn't seem to be any great debate here and everyone seems okay on what to do, then unless there are any objections or further comments anyone feels is needed, I plan to leave this open until tomorrow evening and then start creating the new pages and handling the relinking / editing / sourcing as appropriate.
