Just making you aware of this staff blog. TL;DR all searches go to the search page and therefore all redirects are permanently broken. 1358 (Talk) 15:59, April 26, 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, for the love of all the Gods. I really wonder what they smoke sometimes because it must be awesome to come up with dumb ideas like this. - Cavalier One(Squadron channel) 16:10, April 26, 2012 (UTC)
- Here's a partial fix for Monobook users. Search suggestions will still take you to the search page, but hitting enter or clicking the go button should take you straight to the page. Just copy to your monobook.js to use it. Green Tentacle (Talk) 20:14, April 26, 2012 (UTC)
function fixGoButton() { $("#searchGoButton").bind("click", function() { if ($("#searchInput").val() != "") { window.location = "http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/" + $("#searchInput").val().replace(" ", "_"); return false; } }); } addOnloadHook(fixGoButton);

- Arrrrrrghhhh!--Exiled Jedi (Greetings) 22:59, April 26, 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the fix. However, I use the Firefox search box far more often than the MediaWiki one, mainly because I usually want to open the page in a new tab. Is there any chance of getting a fix for that? Also, it might be worth creating a gadget for this. —MJ— Comlink Thursday, April 26, 2012, 23:03 UTC
This partial fix is great. It only seems to work in the mainspace, though. Typing "fan" or "qotd" into the search bar brings me nowhere. Is there a fix for that? Fake edit: Capitalizing FAN or QOTD works, but prior to today, a quick lowercase type always worked too. Menkooroo 04:27, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
- Since we have the same problem over on SWFanon, I'm passing the code (slightly altered to work there) to TK-999. Already tried and tested it there. Works like a charm. Thanks! Trak Nar Ramble on 07:30, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
Monobook users can now enable the fix in preferences. 1358 (Talk) 08:11, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, Xd, I did not know we could do that. As for MJ and Menkooroo's questions, I'm not sure there's anything we can do to fix those. All search results would have been posted to the server which would then work out if there was an exact match or not and deal with any upper/lower case matching. Wikia have just stopped it from doing that so that it handles all searches the same way. The JS fix only works by not submitting the search at all. It cancels the HTTP post and just tells your browser to go to a URL based on what you typed in. Since URLs are case sensitive, you'll have to type the page name exactly for it to work. I don't use the search bar in Firefox but the search plugins (or at least the Wikipedia one) appear to use an XML file in your Firefox directory which contains a URL for search suggestions and one for when you submit the search. So those still post to the server and it will handle them as a search. Green Tentacle (Talk) 22:15, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
- How exactly does one instal this? Much thanks!--The Great and Grand Count Mall!(Bow down before me!) 03:32, April 28, 2012 (UTC)
- Highlight the code and copy it. Then, go to [[User:Countmall/monobook.js]] and paste. Save the page. Then, clear your cache, as the page should instruct (if you are using Monobook). Trak Nar Ramble on 07:14, April 28, 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, going to your preferences and the "gadgets" section is easier. Just tick the box labeled "Fix Wikia's search". 1358 (Talk) 14:08, April 28, 2012 (UTC)

- I just discovered that this is no longer an issue in Monobook. Searches in the Wikia skin still go to the search page, but searches in Monobook now go directly to the target page if it exists. This applies for the Firefox search box as well. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers Sunday, May 27, 2012, 00:18 UTC
On another note, what's up with the green links? I haven't experience them before. Is anyone else seeing them? They seem to be random. Stake black msg 10:55, April 28, 2012 (UTC)
- Green links? That is because you added to your your monobook.css. It hilights all links to redirects. 1358 (Talk) 14:08, April 28, 2012 (UTC)

Fix for Oasis users[]
Eladkse has made a neat fix for Oasis (the default skin) that adds a "go" button next to the search button in the Oasis search bar. You can use this customized search by pasting the following code into Special:MyPage/wikia.js:
importScriptPage('SearchGoButton/code.js', 'dev');

New messages on DC Database[]
I seem to have a message showing up at the top of my screen that indicates that I have new messages on DC Database, however I've never been to that wiki before. Is this a ploy or some serious Wikia malfunction that I'm unaware of? -- Riffsyphon1024 03:09, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know why it's showing up if you've never been to that wiki, but the message was sent to almost all wikis about Wikia's testing of their new chat feature. According to Xd, we here on the Wook didn't get it cause we have chat disabled. Cade Calrayn
- I went over to that wiki to see if simply swimming through the talk pages would turn it off, however it continues to be a pain. I'll wait a day or so. -- Riffsyphon1024 03:42, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
- SWFanon, for reasons beyond my understanding, has the chat enabled (no one uses it), but I haven't gotten that message there yet. Trak Nar Ramble on 04:00, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
- I got that message earlier for Halo Nation (I had made one edit there before). Visiting my talk page there shut off the orange bar immediately, and it hasn't come back. —MJ— Council Chambers Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 04:23 UTC
- Had the same problem with another wiki. Riffs, you need to switch to Oasis, then go to the talkpage/message wall in question, and then switch back. 1358 (Talk) 06:25, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
- Interesting; I didn't have to switch skins to shut mine off. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 23:31 UTC
- Yep, Xd. That's what it was. *Temporarily* went to the "New Wikia Look" while on DC and that cleared it out, and now I'm back to my safe and comforting Monobook. [Redacted by administration] -- Riffsyphon1024 07:40, May 9, 2012 (UTC)
- As of last week, this will no longer happen in monobook when SiteWideMessages are sent out to specific wikis. You will only see the message if you happen to be visiting that particular wiki. If it does, just let me know. Cheers, grunny@wookieepedia:~$ 08:43, May 23, 2012 (UTC)

Standard pre-loads[]
What happened to the standard pre-loads? They were here a few hours ago, and now they're not. I'm using the Monobook/firefox combo. Corellian PremierAll along the watchtower 01:32, May 25, 2012 (UTC)
