Forums > Senate Hall > SH:Wookieepedia at Celebration Anaheim, April 16–19, 2015

On April 16 to 19, 2015, thousands of Star Wars fans from across the galaxy will converge on Anaheim, California, for the next Star Wars Celebration. The purpose of this thread is to track what Wookieepedians are going and discuss anything related to a potential Wookieepedia fan table.

Who's going?

  1. —MJ— Council Chambers 17:53, August 22, 2013 (UTC)
    • Update: Following a few recent experiences (both positive and negative) and several unplanned expenses that have severely crimped my ability to save up for the convention, I am beginning to reconsider my priorities in terms of major expenses, so at this time I may or may not be going (more likely not). —MJ— Training Room 05:24, March 26, 2014 (UTC)
  2. Put me down as 70% [EDIT: 100%] likely . It's still a ways out, but I'd really like to support the endeavor. Also do we want to look into a panel again? -- Riffsyphon1024 18:42, August 22, 2013 (UTC)
    • I'm interested in doing so, but I personally would like to see more people helping out than we had last time before we go down that road. Five people isn't really enough to man the table and run a panel simultaneously IMO, at least not if somebody wants to attend a different panel at the same time. I'd like to see at least six or seven people committed and willing to help out before I seriously consider a panel. —MJ— Holocomm 21:25, August 22, 2013 (UTC)
      • Bump bump. Wanting to get this discussion done again. Improving to 75% likelihood, based on money now. -- Riffsyphon1024 11:07, January 18, 2014 (UTC)
        • I've purchased my ticket. Now I need to look for a place to stay and a way to get there. -- Riffsyphon1024 23:07, February 1, 2014 (UTC)
  3. Depending on where I am in 2 years, I would love to go. If it's possible, I certainly will. Supreme Emperor (talk) 22:50, August 22, 2013 (UTC)
  4. It will take an act of the Force to keep me away from a Celebration located so close to where I live. jSarek (talk) 05:10, August 25, 2013 (UTC)
  5. I'm planning to go. Already saving up. Already planning lodging (protip: the more people we cram into a hotel room, the cheaper). Trak Nar Ramble on 09:05, September 3, 2013 (UTC)
    • No thanks. JangFett (Talk) 19:23, September 9, 2013 (UTC)
      • Based on previous hangout time, I think we can work out something. -- Riffsyphon1024 10:53, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
  6. There is actually a slight chance that I may even be living in Anaheim at this time, depending on how the application process goes for me with the Disney College Program. If I make it in for next spring, I'll be sure to have some days saved up to take off during Celebration. MasterFredCommerce Guild(Whatever) 23:40, February 1, 2014 (UTC)
  7. Put me down as a definite maybe. Turns out I'll be still here at that time. Just hope I can get enough vacation time. Corellian PremierJedi symbolThe Force will be with you always 02:01, April 3, 2014 (UTC)
  8. Per jSarek. As this is the first time I've been in a position to visit, both in location and monetary ability, I'd be a fool not too. JorrelWiki-shrinkableFraajic 05:03, April 11, 2014 (UTC)

  10. Depends on grades.AV-6R7User talk:AV-6R7 23:27, October 26, 2014 (UTC)
  11. Put me down as a maybe if in any possible, based on finances. Just don't know yet... ProfessorTofty (talk) 20:17, November 21, 2014 (UTC)
  12. I missed this page earlier, but I am also going to Celebration this year, and can help out at the fan table as well just like during Celebration VI. I also have some flyers for Jedipedia in case some German fans stop by. See you at Celebration, C-3P0 (talk) 13:34, March 14, 2015 (UTC)

Fan table

Information on fan tables as well as the application are here. The deadline is to submit the application is September 15, 2014, which is a little over a year from now.

Worker signup

List your name here if you're committed to going and willing to put in some hours at the table. The more people that help out, the less time everyone needs to spend at the table and the more time everyone can spend enjoying the show.

  1. I have the banner that we used at Celebration VI. —MJ— Council Chambers 17:53, August 22, 2013 (UTC)
    • Per the note I made above, at this time I might not be going. If I cannot go, I am willing to ship the banner at my expense to someone who is doing booth setup, as well as email an image of the banner to whoever handles the table application. —MJ— Training Room 05:24, March 26, 2014 (UTC)
  2. Count me in again! I loved manning the table last time, and I'd love to do it again. Trak Nar Ramble on 09:05, September 3, 2013 (UTC)
  3. I should be able to help out, given the option we work out a schedule so that people can see the panels they want too. -- Riffsyphon1024 23:07, February 1, 2014 (UTC)
  4. Barring catastrophic cessation of existence, either at the show or on this mortal coil, I'll be there and I'll be helping. Unsigned comment by Jorrel Fraajic (talk • contribs).

Fan table discussion

Discuss the possibility of a fan table here.

  • If I can get a free entry pass, I'll go :P JangFett (Talk) 00:30, August 23, 2013 (UTC)
    • We do get four free exhibitor passes with the table. —MJ— Council Chambers 01:18, August 23, 2013 (UTC)
      • I hear a free airline ticket and hotel reservations are complimentary as well. JangFett (Talk) 21:37, August 29, 2013 (UTC)
        • I wish. That would help my budget tremendously. :P —MJ— Holocomm 05:14, August 30, 2013 (UTC)
          • That would be immensely helpful, though I would still look at getting people together in rooms if possible. -- Riffsyphon1024 20:22, August 31, 2013 (UTC)
            • I'm sure Wikia would love to sponsor a trans-Atlantic flight in first class as well as a royal hotel suite somewhere. 1358 (Talk) 20:23, August 31, 2013 (UTC)
              • Well duh, our money tree is just over-flowing. =P - Brandon Rhea(talk) 20:56, August 31, 2013 (UTC)
  • We only have a month left. Are we going to do this or not? At this point the chances of me going are less than 1%, thanks to increasing credit card debt. As I said above, I can provide an image of the banner to the person handling the application, and will ship the banner at my expense to the person handling booth setup. —MJ— War Room 20:12, August 11, 2014 (UTC)
    • It sounds like there are at least two or three people who are definitely going, which is plenty to represent us at a table. If more show up, great. I don't know what the monetary requirements are to have a table, but at this point someone needs to step up and manage this situation: Register the table, find out the costs, find out who is definitely going, and make the arrangements. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 20:36, August 11, 2014 (UTC)
      • And as I mentioned last year, Wikia plans to have a big presence at Celebration Anaheim, including making sure that all of the Star Wars communities on Wikia that want to go are as best represented as possible. We're still in the early stages but we should have more info for you soon. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 20:45, August 11, 2014 (UTC)
        • Reminder that the deadline to apply for a fan table is September 15, which is now tomorrow! That means we have less than 48 hours to act! I will not be submitting the application as I will not be going, but if we are to have an official presence, someone must apply immediately! —MJ— Holocomm 04:16, September 14, 2014 (UTC)

Wikia table plan

As I discussed here, although we missed the standard deadline for table registration, we still have a chance to get one through Wikia's contacts. The plan is to be part of a cluster of Wikia-themed tables, including the Fanpedia and the Fanon Wiki. This would allow us to have more of an attraction rather than the mundane presence we had last time, which was basically limited to a banner and a pile of flyers that we handed out. Brandon can elaborate on this a little more, but this was one of the topics we discussed in San Francisco, and everyone felt this was a great opportunity for us and that it would be a shame for us not to have a strong presence at Celebration leading up to the excitement of Episode 7. I'm primarily addressing this to everyone who is actually going to be at Celebration and would be interested in manning the table, since this concerns you most of all. Let us know if you're still planning on going and would still be interested in manning the table and if you have any other questions. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 18:40, November 20, 2014 (UTC)

  • Yes! This is outstanding that you guys were still able to come together on this matter. I agree that having us as part of the Wikia community of tables rather than a standalone is more efficient for us. Having interacted with Wikia at C2E2 previously, I know they take this matter seriously. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:27, November 24, 2014 (UTC)
    • If this wasn't made clear, I will be attending and I can man the table for reasonable amounts of time pending we can work out some sort of schedule. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:31, November 24, 2014 (UTC)

General discussion

Anything not related to a fan table goes here.

  • Hey guys. Glad to see you're already thinking ahead! I wanted to let you know that in the next few weeks, we at Wikia are going to be meeting to talk about how we can make a bigger footprint at the show for all our Star Wars communities. At the same time, we also want to help you design your own presence (similar to the assistance we provided for Celebration VI, but with the benefit of a year and a half of planning time). There are no details about what our presence will be yet, since it's still so far out, but I wanted to make sure you knew about it so you could begin thinking about ways that we can help you—and how, once we have more details, we can work together for a collective Star Wars Wikia community presence. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! - Brandon Rhea(talk) 22:23, August 22, 2013 (UTC)
    • Thanks for the offer of assistance again. Unlike some other fan groups, we don't have a club treasury built from dues, website ads, and the like, so it's difficult to come up with the money. As I said above, I still have the banner from Celebration VI, so that can be reused if they'll let us (the copyright line on it says 2012 and makes no mention of Disney, so that may cause problems). Regardless, we will definitely need new flyers (any leftovers from CVI will be two and a half years out of date), and I don't know what internet will cost, if anything, yet. We will definitely want our a table of our own in the fan group area, separate from any Wikia booth (which would likely be in the vendors' area), but that doesn't mean we can't still work together for the good of both. —MJ— Holocomm 22:37, August 22, 2013 (UTC)
      • Thanks. We'll keep you updated on anything we decide on the Wikia end. :) - Brandon Rhea(talk) 23:00, August 22, 2013 (UTC)
  • As MJ noted, he is a Wikia Star, as is Trak Nar and CC7567. Do we know if CC is onboard? Additionally, my chance to go is based on how much money I can save up over the next year, and that is based on how fast I finish my thesis, which is costing me roughly $1800 a semester to kick it down the road. -- Riffsyphon1024 10:55, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
    • The huge costs for extending graduate school are behind me now. This should allow me to build up funds again. You also have another Wikia Star. We have nine months to go. Let's kick this into gear. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:01, August 11, 2014 (UTC)
  • Anybody interested in going in on a hotel room? Corellian PremierJedi symbolThe Force will be with you always 01:50, January 21, 2015 (UTC)
  • So, I live in Anaheim, which means I'm almost definitely going. I know I can't really edit much anymore, but I'd still love to join at the table if possible. Also, if anyone hasn't bought plane tickets and wants to spend another day or two at Disneyland, I get people in for free. ;) MasterFredCommerce Guild(Whatever) 20:01, January 23, 2015 (UTC)
    • Offer for free admission to the Disney parks no longer stands, as all my passes for the year have since been obligated to other people. MasterFredCommerce Guild(Whatever) 03:19, February 25, 2015 (UTC)
      • Crud, I missed this post. -- Riffsyphon1024 06:13, March 25, 2015 (UTC)
  • If I can, I will be there. Will have to talk to Fred more about it as the time approaches. I'd like to do it for as cheaply as possible.—Jedi Kasra ("Indeed.") 02:24, January 24, 2015 (UTC)

Shirts

  • Yeah, shirts. We did this for Celebration IV last time in Los Angeles. I would really like to see a new design that celebrates our tenth anniversary (as it will be by 2015). The more Wookiees that purchase one, the cheaper the cost. -- Riffsyphon1024 11:16, January 30, 2014 (UTC)
    • I would be interested in a shirt, but I lack the ability to design it. —MJ— Council Chambers 05:27, January 31, 2014 (UTC)
      • I'm sure someone here has design capabilities.. -- Riffsyphon1024 23:07, February 1, 2014 (UTC)
        • I am requesting Trak Nar help with this endeavor. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:01, August 11, 2014 (UTC)
          • In the months after this request, we lost Trak unfortunately. I am however still interested in getting a shirt made for Anaheim. Is there ANY interest? -- Riffsyphon1024 04:29, November 24, 2014 (UTC)
            • I continue to extend interest here, but it appears this will not be something covered. -- Riffsyphon1024 07:52, December 31, 2014 (UTC)
              • Too early to make that judgment call. We at Wikia don't yet know what our plans are yet and what we can and will cover for Wookieepedia, but we should know soon enough. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 07:59, December 31, 2014 (UTC)
                • It's four months away.. -- Riffsyphon1024 08:55, December 31, 2014 (UTC)
                  • Doesn't change what I said. We work with the convention organizer, in a process that is different from if Wookieepedia was simply doing all of this on its own. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 08:59, December 31, 2014 (UTC)

Trivia Competition

  • So I recently saw that Wookieepedia is being credited as holding a trivia competition, as seen here. So I'm curious if this is something being run by Wookieepedians or, as is more likely, Wikia staff. Also as someone VERY interested in participating is it too late to sign up as a "Wookieepedia superfan?" I'm not really expecting an answer to this last question but will this be including Legends trivia? Gotta get my study on! JethLordMasterYing yang copy (Xia Order) 22:26, March 12, 2015 (UTC)
    • Hey. It's run by Wikia staff. Preference will, of course, be given to the most active people on Wookieepedia in attendance, but I will certainly mark you down as someone who is interested. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 15:27, March 14, 2015 (UTC)

Wikia update: Wikia fan area

Hi everyone. I wanted to give the Celebration participants here an update on Wikia's plans for the convention. Many of the details are still being worked out, so what I'm telling you here is what we have so far.

We plan to have a grouping of tables within the fan table area at the convention center. This grouping of tables will be to promote the Star Wars communities on Wikia. This would include all of the major Star Wars communities—at the forefront of which is Wookieepedia—including some international versions. Because Wookieepedia is the only community that will have people at Celebration, those other communities—and especially Wookieepedia, of course—will be represented by Wikia Staff.

But what about Wookieepedia itself? Wookieepedia will have its own section in the Wikia fan area. Participants from Wookieepedia will be able to man this area and promote Wookieepedia, and we will not ask Wookieepedians to promote other Star Wars communities. Wookieepedia is the only Wikia community that will have its own dedicated space within the Wikia area.

The likely follow-up question to that would be about branding. Namely, what kind of brand presence would Wookieepedia have within the Wikia are? I don't have an answer to that, other than to speculate with this: there will surely be Wikia branding in the Wikia area, but because Wookieepedia will actually have participants and will be running its own section of the Wikia fan area, I would imagine that there will be strong Wookieepedia branding as well in order to attract peoples' attention to the best Star Wars encyclopedia on the web.

So that's what we know so far. Once we know more, we'll work with you on setting up Wookieepedia's fan presence. Let me know if you have any questions, but note that I may not have any answers at this time. Thanks! - Brandon Rhea(talk) 20:39, January 19, 2015 (UTC)

  • Sounds interesting. It's nice to hear Wookieepedia will have a bigger presence this time. I do have a question since our German wiki (Jedipedia.net) is not on Wikia, would they be interested in having our flyers out? If not, it is no biggie, I can just as well represent Wookieepedia if they only want to have Wikia wikis there. :) See you at Celebration, C-3P0 (talk) 13:42, March 14, 2015 (UTC)
    • I don't think that would work out. You're certainly and obviously free to promote Jedipedia.net on your own time and in your own place, of course, but because this is a Wikia fan area, we'll be promoting a number of Wikia communities. One of those is Jedipedia.de, so promoting both in the same area could cause confusion. Thanks for asking, though. Good question. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 15:26, March 14, 2015 (UTC)
      • No problem, that's totally understandable since it is your booth. Good to have that out of the way beforehand so we can focus on Wookieepedia now. :) --C-3P0 (talk) 10:38, March 15, 2015 (UTC)
  • Is there an idea about the placement of the Wikia fan area in relation to other fan groups, other tables? Is this all located within the Exhibit Hall? -- Riffsyphon1024 06:16, March 25, 2015 (UTC)
    • The Wikia fan area is in the same area as all the other fan groups/tables. I don't know the exact placement yet, though. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 00:18, March 27, 2015 (UTC)
      • Okey. Thanks for the information again. -- Riffsyphon1024 00:18, March 31, 2015 (UTC)
