So, I've been working on the planets lists, trying to create sortable lists that make it easier to clump together planets that exist in the same system, region, sector, and with the same grid coordinates, and in general trying to create a standard format. I noticed that the lack of sortability made it more difficult to determine planets that are near each other and get a good idea of the geographical closeness of the Galaxy, and that different lists had different formats. I would post this on the talk page for the article, but it's been split up into 26 alphabetical articles, and they all have different formatting styles going on at the moment.
Anyways, in reformatting these lists, I noticed that there are a few columns in the lists that are seemingly unnecessary due to the general lack of information avaiable. On many of the planets, data on Climate and Capital City is simply unknown, but the data entry has been rather patchy, so that for some planets its done as unknown, for others the field has been left blank entirely. This creates somewhat of a problem for the sorting code, which does not like blank entries. As I'm somewhat new, I didn't want to go through a delete the columns on Climate and Capital City in the list without running it by some other people, but I would like to propose doing just that. At this point, by my rough guestimation, less than 15% of planets on the lists have climate information, and maybe 1 in every 15 has information on a capital city. From what I can tell, for every planet this information IS available, it can be found in the article associated with the planet, and to which any searchers would be linked.
So, in my reformatting, I would like to eliminate the columns on Climate and Capital City, due to a general lack of information and due to the fact that leaving them in makes creating sortable columns more difficult. I feel the creation of sortable columns is a more useful benefit than preservation of columns mostly blank or filled with 'Unknown."
Thanks for any input, and sorry for the long (and slightly out of place) post.
