Given how large the star wars wiki is it would be nice to start enabling category intersections to make searching easier.

It would be awesome to be able to start searching for things like Mandalorian + Bounty Hunter or other combinations to help refine searches. If I wanted to find Female Imperial Officers I would have to ordinarily search through either Females category (4,915 results) or comb through the various Galactic Empire military personnel category (nearly sub-categories with ~500 results). - Just type Mandalorian Bounty Hunter in the Search box.--Richterbelmont10 (come in R2!) 16:57, May 29, 2014 (UTC)
- have you actually tried that? Boba or Jango don't even make the first three pages of results. All it does pull every article with bounty hunter and mandalorian which makes the results even worse then going through one tag list or another.User:Praguepride
Category Intersection is a very good MediaWiki extension. I'd definitely recommend it as a way to help people search for articles. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 15:54, June 2, 2014 (UTC)
I wouldn't mind enabling this extension. It doesn't seem to do any harm, so I'd definitely be in favor of enabling it if Wikia agrees with it (it seems that they're generally hesitant to enable heavy extensions dealing with categories). 1358 (Talk) 17:41, June 3, 2014 (UTC)
- No disagreement from Wikia at all. It can be enabled if the community would like it to be. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:05, June 3, 2014 (UTC)
- This sounds like a rather interesting idea :) Supreme Emperor (talk) 19:06, June 3, 2014 (UTC)
- Update: I've filed a Special:Contact ticket regarding this. 1358 (Talk) 18:53, June 9, 2014 (UTC)
- And I've just received an email that CategoryIntersection has been enabled. 1358 (Talk) 20:21, June 9, 2014 (UTC)
- It works. It works surprisingly well although it seems unable to peek into subcategories so it helps to do research on categories first then do your searches. It may be worthwhile to think about rethinking having so many subcategories...--praguepride (Talk) 20:39, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

- I have taken the liberty of abusing a MediaWiki system message to add a link to this feature to all category pages, next to the page count (which is the best place I could find). The link will automatically place the category from which you accessed it from into the "Category 1" field.
Master Jonathan Council Chambers 03:32 UTC Wed June 11, 2014 - So how do you make a "category intersection" search?--Richterbelmont10 (come in R2!) 16:48, June 11, 2014 (UTC)
- Go to Special:CategoryIntersection and enter the categories you wish to intersect. Or find the first category and click on the link next to the article count that I added.
Master Jonathan Council Chambers 17:23 UTC Wed June 11, 2014 - Also when searching, remember to add "Category" to the beginning. It won't automatically detect that it's a category and might instead try to search for a page, which doesn't work with this extension. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:21, June 11, 2014 (UTC)
