Currently, "Community > Site policies" in the navigation bar at the top of every page, and the "Wookieepedia policies" link at the top of Template:Policies (which appears on every policy page), point to Category:Policies on Wookieepedia. This category listing is not a particularly user-friendly way to get an overview of site policies; the aforementioned template is a much better tool for that. However, there is no one-click method to get to a page displaying this template (unless one is already viewing a policy page); users must use the navigation bar to take them to the category, then click one of the policies there listed. There is no top-level policies page.
To address this minor shortcoming, I created Wookieepedia:Policies. The purpose of this page is to have a landing point for the Policies template; as such, the page has only minimal text (restating Template:Policy), and contains no new information and creates no new policy.
Because this page exists only as a navigational aid, I'm not sure whether a CT is required to ratify it—there's no content there really to "ratify." A CT may or may not be required to change the existing policy links from pointing to the Category to pointing to this new page, as that does change site navigation slightly. Regardless of whether this warrants a CT, it certainly warrants discussion, so I'm presenting it here. Discuss! Asithol (talk) 10:11, December 19, 2015 (UTC)
I think this a great idea since the category is certainly not new user friendly at all. I feel the Wookieepedia: Policies page should probably be expanded to more than a paragraph and the template, but this is a good start! Ayrehead02 (talk) 11:59, December 19, 2015 (UTC)
Not a bad idea. Perhaps the additional text could summarize some of the most important policies, in order to make things less confusing or intimidating. To sort of drive the point that even though there may seem like a lot of policies, the basics boil down to certain key points. ProfessorTofty (talk) 07:22, December 20, 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, everyone, for the comments. I agree the content could be expanded, but—like any page on this wiki—that can happen over time as editors contribute to it. I started this thread primarily to find out two things: first, whether people found the concept worthwhile. Feedback seems to indicate so. Thus, my second query: what's the procedure for getting the navigation bar to point to it? There may not be a policy specifically addressing this sort of change, so it may fall into a gray area. Should I start a CT? Or is someone with the proper credentials willing to issue an Executive Order? It's a fairly minor site change, and one with no real downside that I can see or that anyone else has pointed out. Asithol (talk) 05:56, December 23, 2015 (UTC)
It's been done. 1358(Talk) 20:37, December 24, 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, 1358! It looks from here like Template:Policies has been updated, but not the "Community > Site policies" link in the navigation bar. Asithol (talk) 04:27, December 25, 2015 (UTC)
Updated as well. 1358(Talk) 21:41, December 26, 2015 (UTC)
