I'd like to propose breaking the Featured Article into sub-categories (Featured Starship, Featured Character, Featured Tech, Featured Creature, etc.) which could allow for more articles to be showcased faster, preventing a backlog of articles from piling up. Is anyone else interested?Tocneppil 17:12, 13 February 2008 (EST)

  • This doesn't seem like an effective solution—actually, we want as many featured articles as possible and subdividing them wouldn't be a useful idea.--Goodwood Redstarbird (Alliance Intelligence) 22:16, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
    • Indeed; with the switch to a daily system beginning on 2009, we need a bit of a backlog for downswings in the FA creation process. Additionally, our featured articles aren't currently balanced - we'd run out of featured vehicles, for instance, in no time at all, without appreciably denting our featured individuals. jSarek 22:22, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
      • Hmmm, good point on the starships (although if they were combined with the tech . . .). I also didn't know about the shift to the daily system, which would solve the backlogging.Tocneppil 22:29, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

In response to Goodwood's point, I was proposing a sub-categorizing, not subdividing. Each would still be classified as a Featured Article, they'd just get their own slot on the Home Page.Tocneppil 22:33, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

        • And then the question of where to put all these Featured Things onto the Main Page? -- Riffsyphon1024 05:10, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
          • I had thought of using a certain color for each section on the Main Page, utilizing an image of the Featured Item to link to the article in question. By limiting the write-up (which usually is an encapsulation of the larger article with a "read more . . ." link) we could simply have a caption of one or two lines (something like: "The DL-44 was the favored side-arm of Han Solo" or "Hutts are hermaphroditic").Tocneppil 08:09, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
