There have been a couple/few of us who talked before about having a table at Celebration IV. I have kinda been waiting to hear from Lucasfilm before we really bring this up publicly. Well, it seems that next month is when they will begin taking applications, so I thought we may want to go ahead and begin discussing:

  1. Do we want to do it?
  2. What do we want to do at our table?
  3. Would we be willing to have a fan event?

I have talked to Wikia about this a little, and they are willing to help us out with this, too, though obviously their resources are limited. So the key word is "help." We would still have to do quite a bit of work and probably spend some of our own money to make this come off well.

Do we want to do it?[]

Remember this will involve some work, so when you vote "yes" think of it also as a commitment to help in whatever way you can.

Yes[]

  1. I think this would be a great opportunity for more exposure for Wookieepedia, and a chance for fellow Wookieepedians to meet each other. Sometimes I think every true fan has heard of Wookieepedia by now, but that's not necessarily true. I run across people all the time who are big Star Wars fans, but have never heard of us. 2. Sounds great. Roron Corobb 20:06, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

  4. I think I'll be able to attend, but I'm not certain. But I'll definitely help out.-LtNOWIS 22:32, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Before I jump in with a "yes" vote, what exactly is entailed in this? You mention "I have talked to Wikia about this a little, and they are willing to help us out with this, too, though obviously their resources are limited," suggesting there needs to be some financial outlay. If so, how much? And how much time will we have to devote to the table, rather than walking around gleefully ogling all there is to see and spending way too much money on obscure secondhand West End Games titles? I'm definitely inclined to say, "heck, yes!", but I know better than to volunteer before I hear the mission details. ;-) jSarek 09:19, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • I like the idea, but since I live way across the other side of the Pacific ocean and hence can't attend this event, it would be a little naughty for me to vote "Yes" for all of you that are going. :) QuentinGeorge 10:12, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Same here. Good idea, but a 10000 mile round trip makes it a little hard for me to attend. Green Tentacle (Talk) 10:16, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • That would be pretty cool, if we could get enough Wookieepedians interested. I'll probably be there; depends on how much money I save before the end of the year. It will be my first trip to USA! --Azizlight 10:22, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Well, if you save enough money, you could even shout me a trip too....Oh..bad idea. :P QuentinGeorge 10:24, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
      • Umm... don't count on it :-P --Azizlight 07:10, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  • As of now, I am able to attend, but my situation may change. I can't totally commit one way or another until early next year. StarNeptuneTalk to me! 17:25, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • I also have never been to a Celebration and was not considering going to this one. However, as it were, if this passes and we do come up with a solid plan (and LFL approves) I would definitely try to get there to participate, and barring anything major happening between here and then, would almost certainly be able to do so. Kuralyov 17:48, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Just to be clear, saying "yes" isn't committing to actually going to Celebration IV. As a matter of fact, as it looks right now, I sadly but most likely will not be able to go.  :( It is simply saying you think we should do it, and will contribute however you can. We will need financial help, as discussed below, but also artistic talents to help design the flyers, posters, t-shirts, badges, etc. - whatever we end up deciding on. On the flip side, we will obviously need people there manning the table, and hopefully we will have enough Wookieepedians there where the shifts can be short with frequent rotations. I'd hate for Aziz to fly all the way in and be stuck at the table for 8 hours pulling his shift. :p WhiteBoy 20:09, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
    • I could be there and would love to help out. Roron Corobb 20:12, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

What do we want to do at our table?[]

I've never been to a Celebration, so I'm not as familiar with them as some are. My only (lame) idea at this point is passing out a flyer with our info on there. I think this would be a very basic thing. We need much more creative ideas than this.  :) WhiteBoy 17:36, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Well, you will need a high-speed internet hookup so those of us who aren't going can connect via IRC. 8) —Silly Dan (talk) 21:45, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Sounds good to me, but I think we should have a list of administrators and active users on pamphlets, and maybe some of the administrators could be the ones who run the table. And also, another one of my ideas is, how about we have a medium flag on the table with the Wookieepedia symbol on it, so people will notice the table. Plus we could have a seperate chair near the table were people could ask administrators what the site is all about, and how they can help improve it. Brain40 10:15, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • We should have one or two computers there with Internet hookup so visitors could browse the site at the table. Also we need to include Abel and Dan's quotes about us. Kuralyov 17:48, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Great idea! WhiteBoy 20:10, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Actually, we should probably leave Dan's and Abel's quotes out of an actual Lucasfilm-sanctioned event. A little birdie told me that Abel's Lucasfilm implant gave him a mild zap for acknoledging us; no need to put either of them in a situation where their implants would be likely to go off again. jSarek 05:55, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
  • If you guys wanted to rig a projector to a laptop with a running PowerPoint presentation (looped of course) telling a little bit about the site, I can help with that, as long as someone doesn't mind getting massive e-mails from me! Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 22:42, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
      • I feel that wookiepedia isn't the kind of thing to have a table set up for due to it being an encyclopedia with info and not really much merchandise and things in the way of hard goods, however I think everything's worthy of a table- we just gotta work out what's best to put on it. And don't anybody say user fanfic stories. No. Not gonna happen. Darth Maddolis 01:49, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Would we be willing to have a fan event?[]

Mary (from Lucasfilm) suggested a "stump the Wookieepedia experts" event on the fan stage. The way I figure this would work would be several of our best Wookieepedians on stage answering trivia questions from the crowd. This probably wouldn't be the only idea that could work for a fan event, but it's one she suggested, and I think it's a good one! WhiteBoy 17:36, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

  • That would be great! Show the people the power of the Wooki! Charlii 17:55, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Would we get 30 seconds to look up the answers on Wookieepedia? ;) --Xwing328(Talk) 01:47, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
      • First question should be What is the gender of the Jedi Exile?. ;) QuentinGeorge 10:13, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
      • Sounds good. Power of the Wooki!!! Brain40 10:16, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
      • LOL, Xwing.  :) WhiteBoy 20:12, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
        • I like that idea a lot!! Perhaps even a trivia contest b/w challengers and wookieepedians? --Taybo20 22:25, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • I would definitely be willing to do this. Kuralyov 17:48, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
    • It's good that Kuralyov is willing to help- now all we have to do is get him, Nebulax, Kwenn and maybe Lt. NOWIS or Borsk Fey'lya together and we could beat almost anyone . . . except a team composed of Vitas, Chee, and Pena of course. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 17:51, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
      • Sounds cool. Roron Corobb 20:07, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
        • What X Wing said was meant as a joke, but think about it, if we are asked questions and we answer using the ultimate power of wookie were impress people, were there to show this sites vast knowledge not our own! Jedi Dude 20:39, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
    • As noted below on this page, I'd be more than willing to work at a combined Wookieepedia/CUSWE table. That would, of course, extend to the 'Stump the Experts' panel. Bob Vitas

Moichendise![]

We definitely all need name badges, and we could also hand out Wookieepedia "Anon" badges or something like that. --Azizlight 10:31, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Or, like, "Don't be an anon", etc. --Azizlight 10:35, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Or, like, a badge made out of this? ;-) jSarek 10:56, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Also, we could probably have Wookieepedia T-shirts and clothing, and maybe some hats, and possibly even a pillowcase or curtains, with the logos on them. But that's just my idea. Brain40 10:19, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • We might consider doing something unique to hand out at as prizes for "stump the Wookieepedians." I know a guy who makes T-shirts, and if this passes, I'll talk to him. No promises though. Kuralyov 17:48, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
    • I like this idea. We could also sell the shirts at the table. My company has used http://www.customusb.com to do flash drives with our info on them. They're not really that expensive, and we could sell those at the table. We should also have some free stuff like the name badges or pencils or pens or something. WhiteBoy 20:12, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
      • Shirts would be great!! --Taybo20 22:21, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Perhaps letting Wookiepedians pre-order shirts would be a good idea? That would help in ordering the right amount and probably increasing our exposiure to the rest of the fans. Charlii 20:57, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Sounds good. Brain40 00:34, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Could those not making it still buy a t-shirt through the mail? I'd like to promote us outside the convention whenever I can. -- Riffsyphon1024 23:31, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Same here. --Xwing328(Talk) 05:16, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
      • I'd like a shirt, too. :-) – Aidje talk 05:06, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
        • Me three. Adamwankenobi 05:23, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
          • Should we have a design contest? --Xwing328(Talk) 16:00, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
            • Isn't that obvious? -- Riffsyphon1024 05:24, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
              • We should get it started so there is plenty of time to make good entries. —Xwing328(Talk) 18:41, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
                • Right here. Been up for a day now with two of my creations. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:19, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
  • "Also, we could probably have Wookieepedia T-shirts and clothing, and maybe some hats, and possibly even a pillowcase or curtains, with the logos on them. But that's just my idea."- I don't know, shirts are okay but I'm not the kind of guy who wants hats, pillowcases or curtains with a wookiepedia logo on it. Not sure about others, but it seems a little.... strange. I'm fine with my whinnie the pooh pillow case as it is :). (BTW, for those of you unfamiliar with the delicate technique of Sarcasm, I don't have a whinnie the pooh pillow). PPS I like the title- makes me smile and speak the word with a Mel Brooks/Spaceballs "Moichandise" accent. Darth Maddolis 04:28, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Now hold your horses. It's been discussed whether or not LFL would even let us make "merchandise" with their property all over it. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:31, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Finances!!![]

Well, in response to the comments above about that we need money for this, how about getting the administrators together and creating a whole new page for financial donations on here, like on Wikipedia, where we could include the E-mail adress for Wookieepedia, so that users and administrators could send in money to help out with this. Brain40 10:27, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

  • This sounds like a good idea. StarNeptuneTalk to me! 17:25, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • I agree, this sounds like a good idea. We would need to involve the Wikia staff on this since it would require a secure transaction. And if all else fails, I suppose we can have a PayPal account. :p WhiteBoy 20:17, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

More comments[]

  • I couldn't be in on the Celebration IV, but it sounds like a great thing for wookiepedia. not just a great thing , but if it all works out it will be a new age for us. hope it works out guys, and have a great time doing it. May the force be with you. --Darth tader 18:45, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
    • I'd love to go and help out, but airfare and housing is kinda expensive... --Xwing328(Talk) 01:49, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
      • If there are users here who have connections to the 501st Legion Organization, we could always ask for donations from them as well. Brain40 10:29, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
        • I'm too poor to actually go to Celebration IV, but I think if we could get maybe a laptop or two and a projector, we could have a PowerPoint or equivalent presentation up to show people about Wookieepedia. If it's not too much video editing stuff, I can help with that, if someone is willing to accept massive e-mails. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 17:55, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
          • I live in Orange County, so I'm thinking about going, so i would be willing to help out. I would like to go, since I've never been to one before, but how much does it cost to get in? Timifer 19:58, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • See my comment above, but you can still help out even if you won't be able to attend.  :) Timifer, I don't think they have released cost information yet. Someone who has been to one before may be able to give you an estimate, tho. WhiteBoy 20:20, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the comments administrators, glad I could give some helpful ideas, if you need anymore suggestions, just ask. But sadly I won't be able to attend, but, if anyone at the convention needs userbox help, just refer them to me, (make sure they have an established account first though, ever since that vandalism on my page, I'm afraid of IPs.) Brain40 22:23, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
    • I'm going anyway, so I'd be happy to help out in any way I can. -- Ozzel 04:28, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
  • So...any updates with this? Kuralyov 06:51, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  • I'm just wondering... with WhiteBoy not attending, and Riff yet to comment, is it worth even doing this if both the co-founders are absent? --Azizlight 06:57, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
    • I say yes. Wookieepedia is more than its two bureaucrats. That's the whole concept. Kuralyov 06:59, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
      • I concur. We'll have several of our admins and other users in good standing there . . . though it would be nice if our founders could attend, they're by no means critical to it. jSarek 11:04, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
        • I've not heard anything new yet from Lucasfilm. I will send an email asking for a timetable or more information. And I definitely agree with what jSarek said. It'd be good to have a couple of people at the table for each "shift." WhiteBoy 10:26, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Are there any Wookieepedians from LA that some members could possibly house with, to cut down on costs a bit? --Xwing328(Talk) 20:53, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
    • This whole thing sounds great, but, unfortunately I won't be able to attend... don't got the dinero. However, if there's anything I can do to help out, I'd be glad to. I can do graphics and draw, but I don't know how those could be used to help. It would be so SWEET to be there... nuts. -Solus 01:51, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Wookieepedians within range[]

I know that JSarek is in Bakersfield, and in this section we could identify more people that are in close range and at least wouldn't have to fly out to California to do this. I am undecided on whether to come and where we would all stay during the event. It would be a 4000 mile round trip for me. -- Riffsyphon1024 21:29, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

  • I am also using this for reference and it seems a majority of Wookieepedians are east coasters. -- Riffsyphon1024 21:53, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Five out of twenty is a funny majority. :p Havac 22:29, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
      • Shall I modify my original statement? A majority of Wookieepedians are not westcoasters. -- Riffsyphon1024 22:43, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
        • On the other hand, I'm sure a lot of Wookieepedians have allready made the decision to attend, disregarding the distance. (It's a cross-ocean trip for me) Charlii 06:30, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
  • I have calculated via a certain airline site that from my location it would cost roughly $300 one way, $300 back, so $650 after fees and taxes, not to mention the cost for 4 nights at a hotel not far from the convention center, and of course not to mention that C4 is $110-$125 for four days, and not to mention what we'll be buying when we're there. Whew. -- Riffsyphon1024 00:44, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

CUSWE / Bob Vitas[]

Bob Vitas has expressed interest in being a part of our table... imagine a table showcasing the 2 best star wars encyclopedias on the 'net! I think it's important because CUSWE is one of our Official Friends, and to show the healthy relationship that has grown between 2 sites that might have otherwise been a rivalry. Not to mention that it would also draw more fans to our table. What do you guys/gals think? I think it's a great opportunity for both sites :-) --Azizlight 02:28, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Why not? It sounds wonderful and it'll definately draw more people to the table. :) Does that also mean that the fan event Mary from Lucasfilm suggested would also be done with CUSWE? —Mirlen 04:39, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Strong Support. Not only are there the already mentioned and quite important symbolic benefits of having our two encyclopedias working side-by-side, there are practical benefits such as both sides working together to keep the table staffed, and sharing of the costs of having the table in the first place. jSarek 10:02, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I am simply shocked to hear that we are considering this! I thought that fandom on the internet was meant as a vehicle for pointless grudges, endless factionalism, and interminable arguments! Um, I mean, strong support. —Silly Dan (talk) 17:19, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Support. What jSarek said; and LAWL, Silly Dan! WhiteBoy 17:26, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
