Hello, sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but I cannot figure it out. How would I go about altering my username? Lexx Yovel 17:01, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
- I believe that only an admin or Wikia employee can alter someones username, but I don't believe they will do it on request. OLIOSTER (talk) 17:02, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
- Wookieepedia administrators can not change user names, but Wikia staff can. I'm not sure they'll do it for no reason—just creating a new user and start editing with it would be easier. But you could try sending a message to Wikia. 1358 (Talk) 17:04, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
- Be sure to follow WP:SOCK if you create a new account. MasterFred (Whatever) † 17:06, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

- I think you can create a new account, and then redirect your old userpage to your new one, so long as you specify on your new userpage that you used to edit under this name. Not sure if that was the answer you were looking for. Gah, edit conflict =P. Xicer9(Combadge) 17:07, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
- Haha sorry. c):D MasterFred (Whatever) † 17:13, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, I don't think you can change your username at all, due to Wikia's shared user database. Master Jonathan (Jedi Council Chambers) 18:08, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, yes, you can. The renameuser extension is enabled on Wikia. :P See w:c:community:Special:Log/renameuser for proof. 1358 (Talk) 18:14, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
- An easier solution might be to change your Signature. Have a custom signature that displays your new username. For example, User:Jedimasterfiolli's sig is just "Fiolli", the former User:Jack Nebulax used to have his sig have a rank in it. If your new username isn't too different, I can't imagine it being a problem. If it is significantly different then it might be an issue. - (edit conflict) I stand corrected, then. I know it used to be that you couldn't change your name. I do notice that the oldest entry in that log is less than two months old, so apparently that's a fairly recent change. Master Jonathan (Jedi Council Chambers) 18:20, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

- In response to Taral, that would be considered a violation of Wookieepedia's Signature policy, which states that signatures must "include your actual user name, or an image depicting it, in your signature." As Xicer has already said, for whomever wants to change their username, just register a new name and leave a note on your former userpage indicating the change, or you may choose to redirect your former userpage to your new one. Anyone may choose to change their username, but they can't switch back and forth between editing from both names. You need to choose one and stick with it. - But it's already quite common practice around here. Just from names in this forum, xd, Fiolli, and Fred don't display their "true" usernames in their signature. There are plenty of others too. Even my my signature capitalises the 'm' in Makashi, when my actual name doesn't. While it's not the formal method of changing your name, minor changes are, by precedent, permitted. - No, you're missing the point. No one cares if someone's exact literal username isn't spelled out in their signature, just that their true name is represented in some recognizable form. Abbreviations, as you say, are permitted and are quite common. I'm referring to the instance when a signature has something completely different and in no way represents the username it is signing for. Making a custom signature to represent a completely different username while still editing under your original username, as Taral suggested, would be a violation of the Sig policy. Regardless, this discussion is drifting remarkably off-topic from the original question of this thread, which has already been answered. If you have questions about the Sig policy, please start a new thread. Thank you. Toprawa and Ralltiir 03:52, October 9, 2010 (UTC)
- Just to clear Taral's name, he did say if it wasn't "too different", but if it was there "might be an issue". Anyway, yeah, the thread is over. MasterFred (Whatever) † 06:37, October 9, 2010 (UTC)

- The ability to rename users on their shared database is a new feature Wikia has developed, you can read their policy on it at Help:Rename my account. Once you have read the policy and made sure you want to change your user name, you can contact Wikia staff to ask for a rename. Cheers, Grunny (talk) 09:02, October 9, 2010 (UTC)
