Greetings fellow wookieepedians. I found that the Category:Technology is classified as very overpopulated. I am attempting to clean up this messy category, but there is far to much work for me to do by myself. If there is anyone interested in helping me with this monumental task, please leave a message on this message board to let me know. Please also tell me what you plan to do to help, so that I can plan my efforts accordingly. Thank you and good day.--Exiledjedi 01:57, March 14, 2011 (UTC)
First, I am going to examine each of the subcategories and determine whether they should be included in the technology category. Then all of the subcategories to those categories should be checked to see if they fit. I noticed that some of the subcategories are rather broad in definition and needed to be broken down into their own subcategories.
Then I plan to go through all of the articles that are in the technology category, but not in any of the subcategories. After examining each article, it should be determined whether the article fits in any of the subcategories. If it does, it should be placed in the proper subcategory. If not the next article should be checked until the process is complete. I an article is in the technology category and a subcategory of the technology article it seems to me that the article should be placed only in the subcategory, since it is included in the technology category.
After completing this process it will probalby be neccessary to create more categories in the technology category to hold some of the articles that are placed directly in the technology category. There will also be some articles that probalby do not belong in the technology category, and should be sent to the proper category.
There is one subcategory in particular that needs to be looked at in the technology category. This is the products category, which does not seem to fit well with all of the other technology subcategories. In the end, many subcategories will need to be moved to new location and some might even need to be merged. New ones will need to be created and most importantly, the organization needs to make more sense than it currently does.
At the present, the technology category appears to be the dumping point for items that people do not bother to calssify, and I know that I have probably contributed to this problem.
I also know that this plan may seem overly ambitious, but with help this plan can be implemented to help clean up this category.
Thank you for your time and response. I did not know if I would attract anyone to this difficult problem.
If you decide to help me please post what you plan to do on this message board.
Thank you again.--Exiledjedi 02:44, March 15, 2011 (UTC)
To change where a subcategory is located, press the edit button and read the categories that the category is placed in. If you wish to remove the subcategory from a category it is located in, please remove the appropriate line from the page. If you wish to change a category replace a line with "Category:The new category" with double brackets around it.
As for the other subcategories, I will have to think about them for a little while. By the way I notice that I fixed your links to the categories. The colon right before "Category" is what allows them to be displayed with the text.--Exiledjedi 01:58, March 16, 2011 (UTC)
