I was just rejected from adminship mainly based on the fact that i'm and 11 years old and probably the youngest user here, now i'm not trying to be a sore loser, as there were some other users who gave other reasons which I understand, but being over 11 or whatever years old is clearly not listed in the requirements for adminship. So if you think you should be older then, why isn't there a rule that says so? Afterall, size matters not... Yoda Roron Corobb Blacksun 01:21, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Well, don't announce your age then. G.He(Talk!) 01:27, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

  • My point is, even if they don't know my age, I think its unfair to base your decision entirely on the age of someone. Roron Corobb Blacksun 01:47, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
    • You are more mature than any 11-year-old I've ever met.--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 01:50, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Thanks. :) Roron Corobb Blacksun 01:57, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
        • Here's a tip: Whining about it now won't help your cause if you ever want to try for adminship again in the future. Just continue contributing and being helpful, polite, and mature, and next time you might fare better. Trust us--not getting something you want at age 11 isn't the end of the world. There's still plenty of time for you to do things. I'm not trying to sound rude or condescending, I'm just trying to share what very little more wisdom I have. Uxviii 02:01, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • The thing is, there are certain legal concerns when dealing with people under the age of 13, established by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. Even your *presence* here might technically be illegal, so it seemed like an unwise decision to give someone affected by the COPPA provisions administrative access to the site. You've always seemed mature, and I wouldn't have made age a factor in my decision-making if it wasn't due to these legal worries. jSarek 02:41, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
    • This site seems to indicate that there's no problem as long as there's no personal info collected. Since admins need to be more reachable than normal users, and we attract a lot more public attention, that's where the problem comes in. -- Darth Culator (Talk)(TINC) 02:49, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I have a question; Is 14 to young to become an Admin? - Yoshi626 01:17, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
    • They'd be exempt from COPPA, so in my opinion they'd be old enough; other users may vary in that opinion, though. However, if you're asking on the basis of running yourself, note we have a six-month minimum of having been registered before a user is eligible to become an admin. jSarek 02:10, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
      • I know. I'm 13 now, and by the time I'd be eligible to run for adminship, I'll be 14. I kind of wanted to run for adminship one day. - Yoshi626 02:50, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
        • I'm thinking about giving it a shot in in seven days as it will have been six months since I joined. I should probably start thinking about how I'm going to answer those questions. I already have C5 down: Kyle Katarn, naturally.--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 03:07, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I'm sorry for you. Seriously, I reckon you should be an admin if you would be if you were older. But, you shouldn't have told them your age. Unsigned comment by Darth Maddolis (talk • contribs).
    • Well, good things come to those who wait. I definitely wouldn't recommend defrauding a website with a false age; that leads to more problems that it solves, and isn't fair to the websites who are trying to avoid getting in trouble by following the law (COPPA violations can result in nasty fines and the site being shut down). jSarek 08:46, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm. Could I be an admin after about say... 3 months?Vladius Magnum

Why? It seems easy, based on the "rejected only because I'm 11" claim. 13 was said to be viably within the rules.

  • First of all, please sign your posts. Second, admin is not just a popularity or rank symbol. I wouldn't know personally, but to me, admins aren't just every six month user whose been good and is popular. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 23:48, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry. I know what an admin is, and what they do etc. It just seemed that the conversation started going that way because of this posting... thing. Don't look down on me because I'm younger and somewhat impressionable.Vladius Magnum

    • There should be a requirement that admins be 18 or over. I am not worried at all that I am not an administrator because I just don't have the skills and it conflicts with my time at school, church, studies, part time job and current a holiday trip. So, I can't see why some people are so upset about not becoming administrators. Zainal 2:28, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
      • I'm not sure where I stand on the whole age issue, although I probably won't vote for anyone younger than 16 or 17. More specifically Vladius, I'm not looking down on you because you are young, but because you haven't really taken a great role in the community- you have less than 200 article edits, for one. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 06:32, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
        • Also, Vladius has much to learn as a newbie. Zainal 7:18, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I know, and I was partly using sarcasm if you can understand that (No, I'm not implying anyhting about anyone's intelligence). I just don't understand why Roron is so upset because of this. It must have some other reasons as well. And I understand how that might raise legal issues. Don't think of me as a n00b. I haven't done much editing before becoming a user, but I studied everything first. I studied all the users, what is typical, the manual of style, the FAQ, and almost everything pertaining to what I would be doing here.Vladius Magnum

  • There isn't anything wrong with younger users becoming admins. A rule for eighteen and up only is ridiculous! There are younger people that can be a better admin than older ones. Orange_lightsaberVillip 22:42, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
    • I'm not saying I want an 18 and up rule. But just because of common sense, I don't think we're going to have too many incredibly mature, high contributing, etc. 15 year olds here. I wouldn't vote against someone older than 13 because of their age, but because of their contributions, etc. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 20:32, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
    • It's also a matter of the behavior other users. I know I'd have trouble respecting and taking seriously an administrator who is tweleve years old so I can imagine many others would.--RedemptionRedemptionusersymbolTalk 02:58, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Groan*. I could contribute more, if I just had more books...Vladius Magnum
  • Plus I wouldn't want an 11-year-old kid taking the kind of crap admins take. Havac
  • If the kid's mature enough, I don't see the problem of giving him some resposibility. Perhaps not fully fledged adminship, but some limited responsibility. It's sounds in an educational perspective. KEJ 15:51, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  • That sounds cool. How on Earth would it be implemented? Admin school?---Vladius Magnum(Clan Magnum) 22:31, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
    • No, it would consist of frequently editing until you are of the appropriate age. .... 23:56, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
      • I was being sarcastic. It's very improbable that anything like that would happen.---Vladius Magnum(Clan Magnum) 00:01, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
        • What is appropriate age to most Wookieepedians?, if the appropriate age is determined, maybe we should then implement a policy stating that if you're under a certain age you're not eligible for adminship? Roron Corobb Talk NR Seal 00:14, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
          • Interesting point...The star wars universe is aimed at kids mostly 8-11 years old, although some teens are still hard at it, working hard to keep wookieepedia clean from vandals and others. But anyway, I think that wookieepedians should be any age.Wildfire 05:22, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
            • 8-11 yrs?? If that age was the main focus, all the movies would be rated G to barely PG, imo. On different levels there's something for most all ages. -Fnlayson 07:03, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
