Hello,
I've been reading the Star Wars novels that I have and I've been looking up the articles on the site for the books. I've observed that there is no sense of real organization among the pages, there's some sort of publisher's synopsis, jacket synopsis, and/or a real synopsis of the plot. In addition, the way continuity is introduced is a mess. We have the tags "{{1st}}" in order to say "(First appearance)", but many pages list new continuity completely seperately, making searching and/or organizing the lists a chore.
I propose we have some sort of agreed uniformity. While not necessarily to be taken, i say we have something along the lines as the following...
Note: <br /> tags used intentionally.
{{Novel template
Introductory description
==Plot Synopsis==
(we would only provide a publisher's synopsis if the material hasn't been released yet. or we could provide a publisher's and THEN a deep synopsis)
==Databank/Appearances/Continuity==
(List everything that appears in the work here. Name can be decided later)
==Behind the Scenes==
(includes trivia and errata...e.g. typos and whatnot)
===Reception===
===Impact===
(Used for important novels like Heir to the Empire or Vector Prime)
===Cover Gallery===
(include covers)
Finish off with the template for the series. E.g. Heir to the Empire would have The Thrawn Trilogy at the bottom...
Any suggestions for improving and implementing a uniform layout to the novel pages? I would go as far as to say comic pages need this too. Dude984 [Communications]-[Contributions] 23:54, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- Most of our novel pages are in horrible shape. A reform may be good. Chack Jadson (Talk) 19:28, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- We already have a set and decided upon format (see WP:MOS). It's just that a lot don't actually follow it:
1. Title/Eras/Infobox 2. Introduction 3. Stub 4. Editions 5. Publisher's summary 6. Plot summary 7. Excerpts 8. Appearances 9. New continuity 10. Behind the scenes 11. Cover gallery 12. Notes and references 13. See also 14. External links 15. Succession box 16. Category 17. Interwiki links
Obviously, you can stick "Reception" and "Impact" under "Behind the scenes" when you're writing the article. The only change I can see being made is merging the "New continuity" under "Appearances" by use of the {{1st}} tag, which might have been decided in some CT a while back. —Xwing328(Talk) 02:24, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- thanks for bring this to attention. I'll do what I can to update pages, and I put in word at the Wookieepedia_talk:Manual_of_Style#New_Continuity about the {{1st}} aspect. We'll see what happens. Dude984 [Communications]-[Contributions] 18:54, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- I also started a CT in regards to the "New continuity" section: Forum:CT:New continuity section —Xwing328(Talk) 00:39, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
