Forums > Senate Hall archive > SH Archive/Era/Star troubles

I've noticed that in certain articles, such as this one the Featured Article Star that is placed in the top-right corner actually conflicts with the Era symbol meaning that whatever Era symbol is on the far right is actually partially covered by the star. Can somebody try and sort this out please. It's just so irritating. Jasca Ducato 17:51, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Yes, we're currently aware of that problem and Sikon, at the very least, is trying to solve it. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 18:01, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
    • There is a {{erasstar}} template... - Sikon [Talk] 18:12, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
      • The trouble is though Sikon that even with the {{erasstar}} it still conflicts, just look at the Revan article and you'll see what i mean. Jasca Ducato 18:55, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
        • It might be a browser issue. I'm using Firefox and it doesn't overlap. - Lord Hydronium 21:34, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
        • Yeah, I see it overlapping. I'm using IE. Well, until we find a solution we'll just have to deal with it; it's not like it's a terrible annoyance. --DarthCow--Talk|Email

  • Firefox doesnt overlap. Anything is likely to happen with IE, ick. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:18, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
    • You can now use {{era}} for featured articles. You don't have to use {{erasstar}}. Just add "featured" as you would any other variable. For example: {{era|reb|featured}}. This also works with "good". However, the category has to be added manually as of now. --Xwing328(Talk) 16:43, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
  • I don't really get how this template works, so I could be way off on this, but would it be possible to modify the {{eraicon}} template for the GA and FA icons so that the particular block of code that adds the check/star image and the link also adds the category? - Lord Hydronium 23:38, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
    • I personally don't know how, but hopefully someone here does. I'll look into it again, just in case I can figure it out. --Xwing328(Talk) 05:53, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
      • I could probably do it, but do we really need to categorize articles by era?–Sentry Talk 06:31, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
        • Oh, that was stupid of me... You were talking about the featured and good categories. I'll work on it.–SentryTalk 22:31, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
        • Alright, the {{eraicon}} template categorizes good and featured pages upon inclusion now. I also deprecated {{erasstar}} and {{featuredstar}}. On another note, we may want to think about renaming the {{eras}} template to something more general if we plan to use it exclusively from now on.–SentryTalk 23:24, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Wait a minute... The {{eras}} template doesn't seem to be rendering correctly:
The {{erasstar}} template looks like this:
Is the eras template supposed to look different?–SentryTalk 22:52, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

  • {{erasstar}} had problems in internet explorer...the star and symbols overlapped. The new {{eras}} is meant to fix that, so yes, it looks slightly different. --Xwing328(Talk) 03:01, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
    • K, no problem. I was just wondering what was going on...–SentryTalk 05:16, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

New iconsEdit

I don't feel like making a new thread, so I will resurrect this one. Does anyone mind if I remplace these era icon images:

With these?

If you want to see how they will render alongside the other icons, check out the top of this page. <div id="title-eraicons" class="plainlinks firstHeading" style="font-size:188%; padding-top:0.2em; padding-bottom:0.09em; float:right; position:absolute; right:0.5em; top:0em; white-space:nowrap"><table style="float:right; padding:0px"><tr><td>[{{SERVER}}{{localurl::Old Republic era}}][{{SERVER}}{{localurl::Rise of the Empire era}}][{{SERVER}}{{localurl::Rebellion era}}][{{SERVER}}{{localurl::New Jedi Order era}}][{{SERVER}}{{localurl::Legacy era}}][{{SERVER}}{{localurl::Infinities}}][{{SERVER}}{{localurl::Category:Real-world articles}}][{{SERVER}}{{localurl::Wookieepedia:Featured article}}][{{SERVER}}{{localurl::Wookieepedia:Good articles}}]</td></tr></table></div> –SentryTalk 08:38, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

  • I think that will work. It's more streamlined and similar now. -- Riffsyphon1024 08:51, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
    • Great, that was what I was going for :). The tiny little wikipedia icons just look strange alongside the Star Wars publishing era icons…–SentryTalk 09:58, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
      • Any other comments? I don't want to be a vigilante editor here… –SentryTalk 19:47, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
        • I really think they should look different than the era icons, so new users don't waste their time trying to find out when "the checkmark era" took place. I'm not adverse to different designs than the small existing markers, but making them look like the era icons seems like a bad idea to me. jSarek 10:05, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
          • Per jSarek. —Mirlen 14:49, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
            • Agreed, they should look different. - Sikon (Vacation) 15:27, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
              • I thought that someone might bring up this objection which is why I wanted some input. I fully agree, but the same should go for the realworld icon on which I based these. Maybe we should make proprietary Wookieepedia icons circular… –SentryTalk 21:13, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
                • Actually, I'm fine with the "real world" era icon. I tend to think of the era icons as the answer to the question "when does the subject of this article take place?" An answer of "it takes place in the real world" makes a lot more sense than "it takes place in featured article status." jSarek 03:23, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
                  • Good point. –SentryTalk 04:10, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I don't really like the idea of having the Star and Check icons up there at all. I think we should reserve that space for the era icons (including the real-world icon) only. --Azizlight 03:57, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
    • Sounds good to me, but what kind of template do you have in mind to mark featured articles? We could use a standard header template or go for something a little more exotic like Uncyclopedia's Template:FA. –SentryTalk 04:10, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
      • What if we used the new icons Sentry designed, but replace the black and white colors with black and green/black and gold? This way they would be slightly seperated from the era icons. --Xwing328(Talk) 22:06, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
        • why not use a more star wars themed icon like a blaster or lightsaber or something rather than a star and a check? Ugluk 22:23, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
    • Another possibility is to place an image below the main wiki.png image in the top-left corner of the screen…<span style="position:absolute;top:108px; left:-149px;"></span>–SentryTalk 23:05, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
      • I guess we should have a vote with all these ideas, and any others people have. --Xwing328(Talk) 23:39, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Well, this conversation seemed to have died. Hopefully we can bring it back to life. I created a color version of the good and featured icons to be used with the {{eras}} template.

Of course, they'll be 30px when used in the template. Somebody please respond if you think we should replace the current star and check with these. Thanks --Xwing328(Talk) 17:08, 5 October 2006 (UTC) (grr...i got logged out and had to log in again.)
