Those using colors in sigs, please replace this

<font color=colorname>text</font>

with this:

<span style="color: colorname">text</span>

Mind the quotes. - Sikon 03:58, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

  • I hope I'm not starting a big HTML debate here, but what specifically is the problem with the font tag? I've heard the argument "it's evil" before but I don't get why it's a no-no. I use span in my signature but only because I copy-pasted it from somewhere (or someone) else. - Esjs(Talk) 14:56, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Font is a deprecated tag in the HTML and XHTML specifications. - Sikon 18:59, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
      • I'm still a little curious why W3C chose to deprecate the font tag, but I did a little Googling and found these two pages: [1] [2]. I guess by deprecating the font tag they can promote CSS... which is fine because CSS is nicer. I just wanted to know why font was depracated because it seemed like a perfectly legitimate tag to me. - Esjs(Talk) 23:28, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
        • I thought it was too, before it became deprecated. Oh well. Though now, because it is deprecated, future browsers may not always support it, and it's best to get rid of the tag's use now, just in case. —Xwing328(Talk) 16:15, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
