So, Artoo has managed to categorize a good many articles as belonging to Category:Male individuals. The only problem is that Artoo didn't manage to alphabetize them, or list them last name-first name. That leaves us with over 1000 sloppily categorized articles. As much as I'd love to go in and tweak them myself, I think it would be a little more efficient to get several individuals together.

I've already gone through and fixed the "A"s. If someone wanted to volunteer to do the "B"s, the "C"s, etc, we'd get this done a lot quicker. I'd also suggest that this be used as an opportunity to clean up the articles overall. While I don't expect anyone to make heavy edits to Luke Skywalker, a lot of minor articles contain errors and are generally not in all the categories they should be. If you can tell it needs help but don't know enought about it or have the time, at least slap it with an "expand" or "cleanup" template.

Anyone like the sound of this? Havac 05:57, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Maybe we should just VfD Category:Male individuals and let R2 delete them before we put too much work into it . . . jSarek 06:39, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Related Question: does the R2 Bot only add Cat (e.g. Cat: Male individuals) if that Cat is not in anywhere in the article? Just wondering if moving Cat: Male individuals to the bottom will cause the Bot to miss it in the future. Thanks. -Fnlayson 15:35, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
    • It was one-time, big-bang, dirty-hackish categorization - in the hope that users will manually add new articles to that category from now on. If I run the same script on these articles again, it will add them to the same category twice. By the way, Category:Female individuals has also been populated. - Sikon 05:12, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
      • OK thanks. -Fnlayson 19:01, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Shouldn't Revan be added to Category:Male individuals? And shouldn't the Jedi Exile be added to Category:Female individuals? Considering that those are their canonical genders? - Yoshi626 23:52, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Most likely. I guess Artoo is still working his way through the characters. -Fnlayson 04:53, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
      • Characters with specific infoboxes (Jedi, Sith etc.) were not categorized. - Sikon 14:56, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Is it possible to change it to "males" rather than "male individuals"? I think this would be much neater for the articles. Anyone agree? I personally think it will be easier to cat that in the future too. --Eyrezer 11:08, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

  • I think that sounds good. --Xwing328(Talk) 17:18, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Well, as only the generic character infoboxes have ben categorised, I guees the place to start would be to get the next batch that are categorised into the new cat. --Eyrezer 01:08, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
      • I prefer simply "Males" and "Females" as well. -- Ozzel 01:18, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
        • However, that would involve the creation of a new category, the deletion of the old one and all the category tags in the articles already categorized, and the recategorization (and re-go-through-and-edit-the-tags-behind-Artoo) of all the articles. More work than it's worth, I think. Havac 02:09, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
          • But if we do plan to make the change, better to do it sooner than after cleaning up the re-go-through-and-edit-the-tags-behind-Artoo stuff. Incidentally, that hyphenated word made my day. -BaronGrackle 03:03, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
            • I agree. Changes like this have been made before. --Eyrezer 03:07, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
          • Chancellor Havac, recategorization is Artoo's speciality. - Sikon 06:36, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
            • Well, if Artoo is up to it . . . . Havac 06:55, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
              • Thinking about it, if you could just get Artoo to run through and replace every instance of "[[Category:Male individuals" with "[[Category:Males" as opposed to redoing the original process, it would work pretty darn well. Havac 07:16, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
