I was using my old computer which had Windows XP and IE 7. I was editing Wookieepedia and I entered text into the edit box. Then, by accident, if I closed the tab or navigated away from it, I would get a warning "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this site?" I would immediately click "No" and thus avoided losing my work.
Now that I have a new computer (Windows 8 and IE10), when I accidentally close or navigate away from a page that I have entered text, I don't get that warning anymore. Sometimes I lose all my work! I asked Microsoft about it and they said it was not a browser-based problem, but a website problem. How can I restore the warning "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this site?" and avoid losing my work?--Richterbelmont10(come in R2!) 16:53, September 12, 2013 (UTC)
I get this warning when trying to close an edit window in Firefox 23.0. If anything, it's a backend issue, not anything specific wikis can fix. I'd advise you to either switch to a decent browser or contact Wikia about it.1358(Talk) 17:20, September 12, 2013 (UTC)
I am using FF23 on both Vista and Win7, and I am not getting any warning when closing or changing from an editing window. Might be some sort of local setting? <-Omicron(Leave a message at the BEEP!) 17:30, September 12, 2013 (UTC)
I have tried Firefox 23 and the latest Google Chrome and I don't get this warning on any of these browsers. I contacted Wikia about it, thanks for the suggestion. I didn't think of starting this thread in the bug forum, but you can move it there if you like.--Richterbelmont10(come in R2!) 18:55, September 12, 2013 (UTC)
Well I just made an interesting discovery. I temporarily switched my skin from my preferred Monobook to the default Wikia and tried the experiment again. I go to edit a page and try to exit the page before saving the changes and BINGO! I get the message: "Are you sure you want to leave this page?" So this thing works with Wikia. Now how can this wonderful tool to work with Monobook?--Richterbelmont10(come in R2!) 23:59, September 12, 2013 (UTC)
