The image categorization project has started. Let's coordinate our efforts in this thread.

A few things to remember when categorizing:

  • If you find a gallery-only image, please either tag it for deletion or include it in an article.
  • Remember to add all four category fields to the bottom of the {{Information}} template. Here's the code for the fields:
|cat artist=
|cat licensee=
|cat subject=
|cat type=
  • If you create a new image category, please notify the rest of us on this page.

A big thanks to all participants. --Imperialles 16:59, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

DiscussionEdit

  • I've already expressed my desire to categorize the cover arts for the books, especially the foreign covers (Dutch covers, Japanese covers, French covers, etc...). The problem is, I don't know how to implement the sub-categories, since it doesn't really fit to licensee (I have no idea if it should be considered Del Rey), subject (it's just about entering the characters appearing on the cover), or type (cover art images? There are comics, books, DVDs, etc... more sub-categories). Before doing any drastic changes, give me your opinion. Nanook 23:00, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
    • This applies to licensing, not image categorization. --Imperialles 21:11, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Hmmm.... so what do we do about droids? Do we list them all in Category:Images of droids, and then place them in their own alphabetical listing, like the individual persons get? Or do we throw them in with the already-made categories in the individual sections? Jorrel Wiki-shrinkable Fraajic 05:19, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Droids will be kept separate from the individuals categories. --Imperialles 21:11, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
  • I made a new template to replace the one for linking to galleries, {{Imagecat}}, to use once a gallery is deleted. Note that you don't have to include colons or the "Category" part, but just the name of the category. -- Ozzel 08:01, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Are we meant to categorize every character picture by individual? Kazz only has one picture in his article, and it seems a bit odd to make a whole category for that one image. (Let's pretend for the moment that we can't expand his article to justify another image, and that I can't take another screenshot of the guy anyway. Probably neither of these statements are true.) —Silly Dan (talk) 21:02, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Only characters with at least two images to their name should have their own category. --Imperialles 21:11, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
      • Can that be increased to three? —Silly Dan (talk) 01:42, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
  • When it comes to Jedi-turned-Sith, send them to where the article is at or keep them separate? Darth Vader is already separated from Anakin but considering the precedent set by merging them in the first place...--RedemptionRedemptionusersymbol(Talk) 03:30, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

QuestionEdit

I dont know if this is how it is supposed to work, but if an image has its own category, and that sub-category is listed in the broader category, do we also need the images in the broad one. For example; in the Images of Jedi Category, there are several Yoda images that are already in their own category.

Can we perhaps avoid this as it is rather redundant. As I see it, it should be similar to the galleries, maybe one image of Yoda but all others in his own category.

Hopefully this can be resolved! -Purpilia 03:13, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

  • You're right. They should not be in redundant categories. —Xwing328(Talk) 23:15, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Comic imagesEdit

Two questions: First, Category: Comic art images seems to me like it should be a supercategory, divided into "Marvel comics images", "Dark Horse comics images,", etc. Right now, it's an unsorted category. Am I correct?

Second, should a new category be created for every comic issue where we use more than one image? —Silly Dan (talk) 01:42, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
