Just a reminder: infobox meta-templates have been redesigned, and if regenerated without changes, infoboxes will hide omitted parameters in addition to blank ones. It is now possible to hide section headers (although this is not done automatically), but this requires changing the source. - Sikon [Talk] 06:52, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

  • I just went through most of the infoboxes and regenerated them. What this means for you is that you no longer have to include an entire list of fields at the beginning of an article; with the new templates you can simply delete fields that are unknown or do not apply. Also, section headings (e.g. Astrographical in {{Planet}}) can also be turned off, though this is only recommended if, obviously, there is nothing in that section. To do so with {{Planet}}, you must include a field in the article infobox entitled hidea=1| (to hide the Astrographical section header), hidep=1| (to hide the Physical header), and hides=1| (to hide the societal header). If you do not specify, all section headings will be included by default. On the template page, there should be a list of display parameters, assuming that particular template has been regenerated since the redesign. Thanks. RMF 08:05, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
    • To clarify, the parameter shouldn't necessarily be 1, but it should be non-empty for the section to be hidden. - Sikon [Talk] 11:57, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
      • Oh, that's too neat. But I just noticed something -- I have no choice but to use MSIE at work, and the lines between fields in {{Ship}} are missing. They're fine in Firefox (which is all I use at home). Why is that? -- Darth Culator 13:05, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
        • Fixed it for planet (although, frankly, IE users deserve it). The templates need to be regenerated again (sorry RMF). (By the way, what do you mean you have no choice? Can't you use Portable Firefox?) - Sikon [Talk] 13:41, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
          • The computers here are all running Windows 2000 SP4 with pretty limited permissions (but they seem to be transitioning to XP SP2 now). Nice machines (mine's a 2.4 ghz P4), but I can't do a whole lot with them. Just run the terminal emulator for the account software, and use Outlook and IE. I haven't actually tried Portable Firefox, but I don't know if I'd technically be allowed to use my USB drive even if it works on this computer. I actually had Firefox installed on all the computers at my last job (including a few demo machines we eventually sold to customers), but I think the guys in the IT department there all graduated from DeVry's "special ed" class (so I got away with all kinds of evil stuff on their machines). Here, they seem more competent but also more paranoid. I've only been here three weeks, so I'm not going to argue with them about the virtues of Firefox... yet. - Darth Culator 14:12, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
            • Who said anything about USB? Portable Firefox is just a version of Firefox configured to store settings and data in its installation folder, not in the user profile folder. And it's strange that these guys are paranoid, yet prefer IE to Firefox... - Sikon [Talk] 14:18, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
              • "And it's strange that these guys are paranoid, yet prefer IE to Firefox..." Like I said, I'm not going to argue with them yet. 10 weeks or so from now, sure. And right now, I'm being cautious about what I do with company computers. Anyway, I'm just glad the lines are consistent between platforms now. Not everyone in our "audience" is savvy enough to recognize the awesomeness of Firefox. Darth Culator 14:43, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Now anytime an article starts with a quote, all the text starts one line lower, even when there is nothing between the end of the infobox code and the start of the quote tag. Is there any way this can be fixed? -- Ozzel 05:32, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
    • It can be fixed if the templates are regenerated (yet again) so that <noinclude> immediately follows {{subst:slf}}, without a linebreak between them. That, or just remove the linebreak between </table> and <noinclude>. - Sikon [Talk] 06:02, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
      • Got it. Thanks! -- Ozzel 21:00, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
