Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Is it just me, or is the actor/model used in this canonical photographic image of Thrawn (which is the only such live-actor depiction, as far as I know) the Star Trek actor Jeffrey Combs?

Does anyone actually know for a fact if it's him? 'Cause personally I LOVE the idea of imagining Thrawny with the likeness (and voice) of Combs.

But does anyone hear at Wookieepedia know for sure?

  • They look nothing alike. Also, this really isn't the place for such questions. —MarcK [talk] 06:16, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Oookaaay, that was... polite. I'm sorry if you feel I have misused the Senate Hall in some way, MarcK.
Does anyone else agree/is there a rule that this is an inappropriate forum for such a question? I'll happily admit that I'm relatively new here and am not yet aware of all the protocols. I'm merely seeking the opinions of fellow SW fans who probably know more about such minutiae than I do.

Ahem, anyway... Apart from mere opinion, does anyone else actually know (or know where I could find out) the identity of the actor/model who portrayed Thrawn in the above image? Despite MarcK's rather brusque statement to the contrary, I still feel that there is a very strong resemblance to Combs. Does anyone actually know?

  • Well, as to your first question, it's answered right on the front page of the Senate Hall, in bold: "This is not a place to ask general questions about the Star Wars universe. Wookieepedia is not a general discussion board. The Message Boards on or the Jedi Council Forums on TheForce.Net may be what you are looking for." We try to keep the Senate Hall focused on what we do here, and not let it spin off into general conversations. As to your second question, I don't believe it has ever been revealed who portrayed Thrawn for that picture, but I can be fairly certain when I say it wasn't Combs. The picture was created by Decipher for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game, and they used models, not actors, for their cards (well, they also used authors - Timothy Zahn and Michael Stackpole portrayed Talon Karrde and Corran Horn, respectively). Also, if you look at the pictures, the person portraying Thrawn has a longer face than Combs, more flared nostrils, and the lines around his mouth are higher than on Combs. jSarek 21:18, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
    • Thank you, jSarek, that was infinitely more polite. I appreciate your opinion about Combs; you're probably right. However I would still be interested to know if anyone can find out the identity of this model. Given that we all know Shannon McRandle, I can't imagine it's a completely unknowable fact. As to my use of the Senate Hall, thank you for setting me straight. However, I remain somewhat unclear on what exactly the Senate Hall is for. Can you please enlighten me further? Thanks, DarkLordOfTheBith
      • It's not unknowable; it's just currently unknown. ;-) Mara Jade was the first major EU character created for the CCG, so there were lots of announcements and press when Shannon Baksa was chosen for the role. When Thrawn was made, he was part of a much larger release of EU characters (everyone you see here), and they didn't bother mentioning specific models except for Zahn and Stackpole. As for the role of the Senate Hall, it's mostly for discussion of things related to the site, and for posting "your questions, suggestions and comments not related to specific articles." In addition to taking this question offsite as MarcK suggested, it might also have been appropriate on the talk page for Thrawn, Talk:Mitth'raw'nuruodo. jSarek 04:04, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Let's at least give him credit for understanding basic wiki formatting. But they are right, this should have been presented on Thrawn's talk at least. -- Riffsyphon1024 09:52, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
