Recently, a user started a SH forum discussion about our Twitter page. Our twitter page? Wookieepedia has a Twitter page? Since when? Well, to sum it up, we don't have one. That Twitter page, linked in this forum, is fake and not us. Also, the same user linked some Wookieepedia Facebook, which is clearly not us, because we have an official Wookieepedia Facebook page. My suggestion is that we could perhaps link our official Facebook page in the main page to avoid confusion, as well as show people those Twitter and Facebook pages (the ones that are linked in that Twitter forum) are fraud.
Before this can be sent to the CT, I'd like for us to discuss about this idea. JangFett (Talk) 23:51, May 24, 2010 (UTC)
Discussion
- I believe there should be a link on the site for the facebook page. yet there are hardly as many members on the "official" facebook page as they are on the "fraudulent" facebook page. (there are 2000+ on the "fake" page and only 50+ on the official) and the twitter page is doing very well with 170+ followers and i think they are doing a good job. why can't wookieepedia talk to them first? they seem to be avid star wars fans. User:Thedandyandy1
- Just because a fraudulent group has more fans than the official group does not mean that we endorse the false group. That's not how it works. Grand Moff Tranner (Comlink) 00:21, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- They didn't ask for permission, either. I don't recall any discussion threads about this sort of thing. Also, those two pages are very misleading, because they are not us. This is why it would be best to link our official Facebook page in the main page. It's to show people that this Facebook page is official, while those two (the fraud Facebook and Twitter pages) are not. JangFett (Talk) 00:28, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- I agree that fakes shouldn't be endorsed, but 2000+ for a harmless group is quite impressive...i think wookieepedia should take advantage of that and make these groups legit by working with these guys. Shutting down a group of 2000 won't go down very well. User:Thedandyandy1
- And isn't wookieepedia a wiki "anyone can edit?" i understand you guys are admins, but they don't need you permission to make a fan group or page do they? they represent a PUBLIC site...(oh..and this post is going to pull some of your strings isnt it?..uh oh....)—Unsigned comment by Thedandyandy1 (talk • contribs).
- Clearly you don't understand how the Internet works. These fake groups are frauds. We don't - and won't - associate with them. Grand Moff Tranner (Comlink) 00:35, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- Advantage of what? You're saying we should endorse in their fraudulent pages. Regardless of how many people became friends and/or followed the pages, they are still not us. We have an official Facebook page for many years. Since 2007, I believe. I'm not an admin, but I can say it's not right to allow these two fraudulent groups to continue their individual Wookieepedia-based Facebook and Twitter pages. It's very misleading. JangFett (Talk) 00:43, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- I understand completely, and agree with the facebook link, but I still don't see why u can't work with them. I mean these guys took the time to make these groups and continue updating them for their fellow fans of this site. These guys are clearly dedicated fans who love the site and would love to work with the wookiee admins! they took the time to make a page! (oh and im just trying to show both sides of the debate here....im not trying to antagonize anyone!)TheDandyAndy 00:44, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- They are frauds. Without a doubt, those two pages should be shut down by Facebook and Twitter, respectively. The administration will take care of that, I'm sure. But, for now, my proposal of linking our official Facebook page in the main page should be our main concern. It would direct others to see that we have an official Facebook page, and all others are fraud. The Twitter page will be identified as fraud, too, as it won't be linked in the main page at all. JangFett (Talk) 00:49, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- they already have steady followers. i say take advantage and contact them. make the group legit.i say take advantage and contact them. make the group legit. ask for the twitter guys password. no reason why they won't comply—Unsigned comment by thedandyandy1 (talk • contribs).

- Thedandyandy1, I'm going to have to ask you again to place all discussion in this section. There's no reason for me to have to move your unsigned discussion here. Also, please note that we are not going to endorse in those fake pages. Clearly, you have not read Grand Moff Tranner's point above. JangFett (Talk) 00:57, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- sorry fett, but i was agreeing with the whole facebook thing....;}...and if u look my other forum disscussion, i will talk about the creation of a legit twitter page (cause its a good idea me thinks) TheDandyAndy 01:01, May 25, 2010 (UTC)

- l believe a wookieepedia twitter is a great idea. daily tweets and updates on articles and facts on wookieepedia (thats why i was follow the "fake"" one on twitter) there were interesting facts and bits of news from the site that i found neat to see on my twitter feed. i believe a "legit" twitter page should be formed. (orrr work with the guys already there..they have already made the foundation)TheDandyAndy 01:14, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- If we do start a Twitter page, it could be linked in the main page with the Facebook link. That seems like a good idea. It would show others that those are our official pages that fans can follow, and know it's legit. But, we don't have to create a Twitter page just to make a point. The fraud Twitter page will most likely be removed, as the creator of that page hasn't received any consent from Wookieepedia. Same goes with the fraud Facebook page. JangFett (Talk) 01:19, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- well i do know twitter very well, all the little tricks and shortcuts, it you need any help starting it i can be of service. cause i want my wookieepedia on twitter! user:thedandyandy1
- if the fake twiter is any indication, a wookieepedia twitter is a great idea...and so would a wookieepedia app for the iPhone...just saying user:thedandyandy1
- and does anyone even update the facebook page? it kinda needs some attention.

- Re-posting from the Twitter Senate Hall page: Actually, both of those Facebook pages are legit. Riffsyphon1024 and I among others are admins of both the Facebook Page and Group. I believe the page was actually started by Riffsyphon1024 a long time ago to give non-Wookieepedians more info about the site. The group is for, quite obviously, members of Wookieepedia. The page is for anyone who enjoys the site or just wants more info on it. And no, it's not really kept up to date sadly. PS: I removed the link to the fake twitter account from the Facebook post. —Xwing328(Talk) 01:58, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- That's good to know, Xwing. Now all that needs to be taken care of is that fake Twitter page. But should we link both? It's strange that we have two legit Facebook pages. One hasn't been used for a while, probably since 2007, and one has 2k friends. JangFett (Talk) 02:02, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- I believe the Twitter page has already been taken down. I suggest linking the Wookieepedia Facebook Page, which in turn should encourage actual contributing members to join the Wookieepedians group. —Xwing328(Talk) 02:05, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- i noticed that too...wookieepediasw is gone from twitter user:thedandyandy1
- So wait...are both these Facebook pages "operated" by admins here? Chack Jadson (Talk) 19:15, May 25, 2010 (UTC)

Let me clear a few things up. There are two groups and an actual editable fan page for Wookieepedia on Facebook that I am aware of, before they started to implement this linking from your profile to a general page that just uses Wikipedia to describe it. But if you link to something like "I like to frolic in the daisies", that page doesn't exist. This default fan page is only a byproduct of the Facebook system and technically renders the original pages moot, unless it links directly to the most used existing fan page. I operate the Wookieepedia Fan Page (which has 2,000 fans) and post occasionally on the Wookieepedians group. It receives attention from non-Wookieepedians, including some LFL people. I receive weekly stats updates from the fan page through my personal email. You cannot do that with the default Facebook fan page. Some of the admins here are also admins on the Wookieepedians group, including myself. The second group is the largely dead When I Feel Bored, I browse Wookieepedia, which I became an admin of to fix their spelling, but generally do not use that group for announcements. To be clear, the editable fan page is what I consider the official fan page, not the one that links from user's profile pages. I will see if I can get the link to go directly to the fan page that I have run for the last year or so. The Wookieepedians group is the next stage for Wookieepedians to group together. -- Riffsyphon1024 06:54, May 29, 2010 (UTC)
- Update: just checked to see if the profile links to the editable fan page and it does for me, so no troubleshooting there. -- Riffsyphon1024 07:00, May 29, 2010 (UTC)
- Before I send this to the CT, is there anything else that could be discussed? It seems the discussion has quieted down within the past few weeks. JangFett (Talk) 01:13, June 14, 2010 (UTC)
Agreeing to
- Strongly agree. And if you're wondering, "well, what's the harm with having some fans create Twitter and Facebook accounts masquerading as the administration" (which is essentially what they're doing, for all intents and purposes), well, they are imitating us without our consent. I'm no lawyer, but that's kind of something you want to shy away from. We should link to the official Facebook page on the main page (or at least somewhere, so that we can point to it), and have the Twitter account removed. Do we really want random people claiming to represent the site in various corners of the Internet? Think about what they can do. They at least need our consent. - I second Fett's motion, we should get ourselves exposed more.--Jedi Kasra (comlink) 00:41, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- Definitely per Chack. We don't need a bunch of people unaffiliated with the site running around the internet pretending to be us and falsely representing the site. And as for the purpose of this SH thread to begin with: yes, put the actual Facebook page link up on the main page somewhere; I don't really care where exactly. Maybe stick it under the Newsnet feed. Jonjedigrandmaster (Talk) 00:46, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
- I would support linking our Facebook page on the MP. Good marketing practice. Toprawa and Ralltiir 19:17, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
