Hi All. We've been talking in the office about how to help some of the smaller Wikia wikis. One idea is similar to your "friends of Wookieepedia" scheme, links from wikis to similar Wikia wikis. A lot of the gaming wikis are trying out a box at the bottom of their main pages listing other gaming wikis for example. On the Star Wars wikis, we are thinking of trying a sidebar box, under the toolbox (on the new Quarz skin). Looking around at wikis that are small enough to benefit from a link from here, but active enough to be interesting, possibilities are:

So... opinions? suggestions? :) Thanks all -- sannse (talk) 20:37, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

  • I still think the SW Battlefront and KOTOR wikis need to be merged into the Games Wiki. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:11, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
    • Agreed. The best way to get those smaller wikis more activity is by merging them. The link box is a good secondary solution, though. However, I'd personally prefer it if we didn't link to idiosycratic projects tied to a particular group, such as RPG and MUSH groups like the ones to which the Uprising and 1 MUSH wikis belong. jSarek 11:18, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
      • I agree, but a link to Darthipedia is always welcome. :P I think linking to other Star Wars wikis is a good idea, but we need to determine which wikis we want to link to before we start linking to every SW wiki we can find. --Jedimca0(Do or Do Not, There is No Try) 15:13, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

So What would be your ideal list of 6 - 10 Wikia wikis for this box? They should be related to Star Wars, but that might include something like sciencefiction.wikia or other more general wikis... -- sannse (talk) 15:27, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

  • My picks would be SWFanon, SWGames, SWMerchandise, Darthipedia, sciencefiction.wikia.com, and indianajones.wikia.com (not *strictly* related to SW, but related enough that StarWars.com itself seems as much devoted to Indy updates as SW updates lately). jSarek 20:09, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
    • In answer to Riff, the SWBattlefront Wiki has been in the process of merging with SWGames. KotOR on the other hand, has been planning to merge for quite some time now, but since it's so inactive, we haven't been able to get in contact with the founder regarding the matter. supergeeky1 BobaFett The Cantina 23:08, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
      • We may be able to help with that, we have a new merge wiki tool that should be ready to use soon... hopefully it will move pages and redirect the wiki automatically. As there's no community and almost no activity there, it should be a good one to try the tool out on -- sannse (talk) 23:16, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

OK, so how about adding another couple of wikis directly relating to Star Wars, along side the two that are a little off the subject? That would give us 6 Star Wars wikis +2. What other two should be there? And any other opinions on the four suggested so far? Thanks for all help with this! -- sannse (talk) 16:41, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

  • The problem is, other than the ones I named, they're all either wikis that should be merged with SWGames, or they're individual roleplaying communities (i.e. "idiosycratic projects tied to a particular group"). Since the SWGalaxies wiki hasn't been explicitly targeted for the merge with Games, I guess it could be a fifth on my list, but other than that . . . hmm, maybe a link to a "Star Wars Online Roleplaying Community Wikis" disambiguation page or something? jSarek 19:04, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
  • I like the 6 in jSarek's original list. —Xwing328(Talk) 21:13, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
    • Let's go with those for now then, we can allways change or add to them later. Thanks guys -- sannse (talk) 23:44, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
  • I'm the creator and admin over at Star Wars 1 MUSH Wiki (on that list)... it used to be quite active, but the game itself has been running out of steam after sixteen years and there's been a lack of edits and updates to it. It doesn't have much to do with the movies or the EU... it's its own unique Star Wars story starting after the events of RotJ. Since it started sixteen years ago, it predates most of the established EU and hence has its own unique SW flavor. It's based on the ol' West End Games SW RPG system and such... but yeah, don't really think it needs recognition or anything. Best left to itself, but whatever. --Danik Kreldin 22:26, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
    • I wonder if it would work to merge it into SWGames then... or is it too different? -- sannse (talk) 23:44, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
      • It's too different. Star Wars Games seems to deal primarily with Star Wars licensed video and computer games. Star Wars 1 MUSH isn't even graphical... it's a text-based online game using the MUSH format. Right now it has over 2000 articles, more than Star Wars Games, but the articles would be so different than anything else in the SW universe. Reading an article about my character (Danik Kreldin) on Star Wars Games Wiki wouldn't work... but it fits just perfectly where it is on the SW1 Wiki. Plus there would be a lot of conflicting articles as the timeline of SW1 is vastly different than anything else in the SW universe... sixteen years of gameplay and story making. Best to leave it alone :) --Danik Kreldin 01:45, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
        • While I understand your point in this, we *do* have several articles on text-based Star Wars games, and planning to expand with a project that is currently going on. While I'm not sure if we'd have an article on your character (I would have to bring it up with the community at the upcoming IRC meeting, where I would support the idea. I'm sure we would, though.), we would have a list of characters. As far as the 2,000 articles, yes, we have slightly less than that, but we do have an expanding community, in which would be glad to help in anything needed. Lastly, we have several templates that notify the user that the current page is non-canon, made specifically for RPG's. supergeeky1 BobaFett The Cantina 08:27, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

I've been working on a similar project for the Entertainment wikis, to help encourage readers to see this as one big project, rather than a lot of isolated wikis. There's a few different versions -- one for the fall TV season, one for kid's TV, one for comedy shows. I made this one for the Star Wars wikis. What do you guys think about adding this to the main page?

I added the Indiana Jones link because of the suggestion above. If you guys like it, you could edit it however you like -- adding or taking out links, or changing the graphic to a more Star Wars-specific image. Does this look interesting? -- Danny (talk) 17:30, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

  • I like it (with a more SWish image). The Broox 22:43, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
    • So yeah, it's not going to merge with anything ;) --Danik Kreldin 00:38, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Yeah, a more SWish image would be preferable. I don't think the Indy pedia should be there. I know Indiana Jones is a Lucas project and that it involves a lot of the same people in front of and behind the camera, but really, it's got nothing to do with Star Wars. KEJ 13:40, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
    • I like having the Indy Wiki on there to give it more exposure, but I'm biased because I've been working on it lately. But that aside, I still think it's good to have it there, because it is often associated with Star Wars. -- Ozzel 02:10, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
      • As an Indy fan, I understand you, but it seems wrong to list it as a Star Wars wiki. There must be some other way of spreading the word (admitted, I hadn't heard of it till I saw this page). KEJ 15:00, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Well this is only for the main page, and there is still a possibility of a sidebar box too (which is in the requests list for the technical team), so maybe remove it from this box and keep it in the "related wikia" box when (if) it appears? -- sannse (talk) 20:22, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
If I'm the only one who doesn't think it belongs there, then don't remove it just for my sake. KEJ 21:55, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

It seems like folks are generally okay with this... Is it all right for me to post it on the main page? -- Danny (talk) 15:07, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

  • I think that template is too big for what it needs to do. Furthermore, it will be redundant if/when Wikia adds their sidebar box. jSarek 20:55, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
    • I think one thing you should think about is yes the Star Wars Galaxies is a game, but is a much more in-depth game than any console game. You should add this to any type of link because it brings in a community of starwars fans that doesn't always look to the books and other EU stuff, but love star wars nonetheless. Just my opinion swg.wikia.com is becoming the most in depth source for SWG related information and has gotten very detailed on a lot of details that weren't previously expanded on elsewhere N.Y.N.E.Comlink 04:35, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
