This is a question to all of you who know something about writing planet articles. It has to do with a small problem that has come up on the Qui-Gon Jinn's homeworld GA nomination page, but since I feel that the issue might be of an interest to the wider community and not just me as the nominator of the article, I thought I'd bring it up here.
It's about planet infoboxes, more specifically the "Native species" and "Immigrated species" fields. According to the sources, Humans live on Jinn's homeworld (obviously), but at this point there's no way of telling whether they are immigrants or native to the planet. I feel that the Human population should be mentioned in the infobox in any case, but since there isn't an appropriate field and we shouldn't speculate, what are the options? Leave the Humans out of the infobox altogether? Put them in the "immigrated species" field like has been done, for example, in the Stewjon GA? (As far as I know, no source has explicitly identified the Humans of Stewjon as immigrants.) Add a new field to the planet infobox for these kinds of "undefined" populations?
On a related note, should sources that mention a certain planet (about which something substantial is known but which lacks an official name, such as Jinn's homeworld here) as "unknown" be put in the Sources section of said planet's article? Cases such as The New Essential Guide to Characters here are simple, since—while it indeed lists Jinn's homeworld as unknown—the entry also mentions the world's River of Light and how Jinn kept some ties to the planet after being accepted to the Jedi Order. But what if a source just lists the planet as "unknown," with no further information? This was the case with Jinn's Databank entry, for example. Originally I placed info on the "unknown" mentions in the Behind the scenes section, but a new "unknown" source has popped up since I nominated the article and I'm a bit at a loss now about what to do with it. Do we any policy on this?
Any ideas on how to approach either of these problems would be appreciated. Thanks for reading this far and have a nice day! Tinwe(comlink) 08:14, February 6, 2012 (UTC)
- Wait, is it even possible for any planet but Coruscant to lay claim to humanity as a native species? If so, some clarification as to what "native" means in this context may be in order. DD97Which bear is best? 18:16, February 6, 2012 (UTC)
- Knights of the Old Republic alludes to Tatooine being the Human homeworld. As far as I've seen, we've just put species that lived there in the immigrated slot if it's not been stated that they were native to the world. Another field specifically for species present on the world would probably be spammed. NaruHina Talk 18:22, February 6, 2012 (UTC)
- I think a third field for "Major populations" or "Other demographics" could be useful. Honestly, any field on any infobox can be "spammed." The point is that we're here to prevent that. If we just shove all the extra species that we aren't certain of into the "Immigrated" field, then we're making assumptions that we can't back up. - If we specified that it was "major" populations, that would probably be fine. I'm just concerned someone would see one Gotal on some planet and put Gotal under the field, which is pointless and would lead to spam on highly populous worlds like Coruscant or Nar Shaddaa.
