Having edited several succession boxes today (during my quest to add information about President/Prime Minister titles retconned in Tempest) I've noticed that the word "Incumbent" is used in them quite frequently (for example Releqy A'Kla's succession box for Senator of Quence Sector). There are also dates listed as "xx ABY - Present" (for example after Releqy A'Kla in the list of Ministers of State). This obviously assumes that the reader assumes the "Present" is the time as of the release of the most recent Legacy of the Force novel- which is ridiculous since we write articles about the Star Wars: Legacy comics in the past tense. Is there a discussed standard for what should be written instead, or do we consider these exceptions (which I don't believe we should) or has anyone else noticed? Solution?

  • The "xx ABY - Present" sould actually on say (for example) 29 – ". Jasca Ducato 10:07, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
    • And we can't really use "Unknown" since it's unprofessional. We simply don't know when they cut off. And yes our present time is beyond the Legacy comics and to be safe we could place ourselves 1000s of years afterward. -- Riffsyphon1024 18:50, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
      • So do we do like the dating system and simply place a dash or a blank space there? Obviously empty space is a little unprofessional as well, and a dash implies "imbumbent" as well (like a death date left blank for a sill-living person in the real world). "Last known" could be another alternative, except I'm also leaning toward it being unprofessional. Is there something semi-synonymic for that?
      • I don't think "Unknown" is unprofessional, if it actually is not known, by anyone. That's just factual. -BaronGrackle 23:37, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
        • I concur with the above statement. "Unknown" is not unproffesional- besides, as more EU books, games (etc.) come out, many of those "Unknown"'s may be filled in. There's sure to be a good deal of new info when KOTOR III comes out- that's right, I have full confidence it'll come out within the next year, or year and a half max (excuse me, I'm just in a 'KOTOR'ian mood right now). • I suppose it's better than improperly using "incumbent." And now that you mention it, maybe that little word will be motivation to fill in that lack of information as soon as possible. It will be for me, anyway. But should we use it for missing information in a succession box or written list ONLY, or for dates as well. For instance
  • Or would we stick with a dash and blank space for the dates? I just don't think that "Unknown" looks good in most instances where numerical dates are expected, but I still maintain that anything is better than something that leads you to believe that any one date is the "present." (Which "- " does, like when they list birth and death dates for an author or composer who is still living, as I mentioned previously) Wildyoda 02:52, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
