I wish that there was some way we could have all redirects from misspellings appear in a different color from other links. That way, people could know that the name is misspelled and that it needs to be fixed. I know we keep some of these redirects around to help people find articles, but is it worth it to allow people to become lax with spelling names correctly? Finding articles is pretty easy. I mean, if someone searches for "Obi Wan Kenobi", the real deal is the first thing to come up. Would it be so bad if someone used "Jar-Jar Binks" in an article and it came up as a redlink? Everyone knows we already have an article for Jar Jar, so I'd think they would just look it up and find the correct spelling.

And don't even get me started on this...

So can we delete some of these redirects? It seems to me that they are doing more harm than good. -- Ozzel 02:42, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

  • I realized later that I may have been a little confusing before. I was saying that it would be nice if we could have the links change color, but since we can't, I was wondering if we could just delete some of them. -- Ozzel 03:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
    • I'm with you on this. For a while, I kept spelling Millennium Falcon as Millenium Falcon. Even though I knew the correct spelling, I'd just always mess it up and not notice. So I think some of these--not all, just some--should be deleted. --Xwing328(Talk) 15:58, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
  • I'm gonna go ahead and tag a few and see what happens. -- Ozzel 22:53, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
    • The redirects are there for a reason: they allow users who are unsure of the proper spelling to find the article anyway under the correct spelling. I'm not deleting Millenium Falcon or Wookie. —Silly Dan (talk) 23:44, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
      • Well, I still think it just encourages lazy spelling, but I understand what you mean. So for those that don't come up first on a search, then fine. But what about those that do, like Jar-Jar Binks. Are they really helping more than they're hurting? -- Ozzel 01:56, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
        • I think they're a good thing. It's not easy to spell a lot of Star Wars words, and it can make it a lot easier for people to find articles and such. To maintain correct spelling, you can just use the "What links here" button for the redirect. -LtNOWIS 01:52, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
