An anonymous user recently posted the following message on my user talk page:

Please stop reverting Republic Capital Ship

According to the admins here, speculation *can* be put down, in ships lengths, heights, and widths, as well as weaponry(when you look at the model), so it's okay until something official comes. If not, then the speculation can stay until we get some concrete proof.

What is the policy on adding speculative (some would say fanon) information to ship and vehicle infoboxes? –SentryTalk 22:12, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Anyone?–SentryTalk 21:59, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
    • My unhelpful answer: it depends on how speculative it is. 8) For example: Republic capital ship could have the guns explicitly seen during KOTOR cut sequences listed, so long as the characteristics given aren't overly specific. Length could also be given, but only as an approximation, and only if there's an unambiguous way to compare it to something of known length. More specific stuff would be pure fanon. —Silly Dan (talk) 22:18, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
      • Really? I had thought that we only allowed ship and vehicle specifications that were explicitly stated in a verifiable source, since that is our policy on most everything else… After all, the SSD continuity issues article provides a good example of just how incorrect an eyeball estimate can be. Oh well, thanx for the reply Silly Dan. I guess that I will have to be more cautious with my reverts.–SentryTalk 23:32, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
        • Well, I'm not saying we should go nuts on the speculation (assuming every wedge-shaped ship is a KDY design, extrapolating lengths from single images which are wildly variant from those listed in every textual source, etc., etc.,) but some speculation is OK. The Republic capital ship, for example, definitely has weapons of some sort on either side of the "hammerhead" structure. The amount of speculation it has now is fine: some of the weapons fit information could even be put into the infobox. —Silly Dan (talk) 15:22, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Is this guy referring to estimates when nothing else exists? hasn't that been ok for some time now? VT-16 18:00, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
