Are smugglers classified as criminals? I know a number are allied with the Rebels, and so I put them in that, but are they 'criminal' as such? Perhaps should they have their own infobox colour? --Eyrezer 03:44, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

  • I agree. I've really been uncomfortable with certain smugglers getting the criminal infobox with its evil conotations, when some of them are down right decent. -- SFH 04:02, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
    • Smuggling is a crime, whether you're uncomfortable with that or not. - Sikon [Talk] 05:43, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
      • Hold on. What about the Smugglers' Alliance, an organisation that the New Republic contracted with. Was it still criminal then? To rebel is also criminal and yet they are not in the criminal class but a separate one. By analogy—although perhaps a smaller group—smugglers could get their own box. It seems perfectly acceptable to for this to be so. --Eyrezer 06:42, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
        • Especially, I think, because it seems that almost 70 percent of the new characters from the Rebellion era and beyond are all smugglers. Crowe 13:53, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
        • I guess they should be Alliance characters. KEJ 13:55, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
          • But equally as Sikon points out, some smugglers were criminals, not connected with the Alliance, so lumping them in theri could casue issues as well. --Eyrezer 23:09, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
            • Well, I was referring to smugglers working for the Alliance. All other smugglers, I guess - unless they work for some other faction - should have a smuggler-user box. KEJ 08:47, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
          • I just think they should get their own color if they're working for a "Good" cause like the new Republic. Han Solo is a smuggler; should we give HIM an evil box?

  • What about mercenaries and bounty hunters? Some of those professions are prefectly legal in the GFFA, and they are sometimes treated as criminals. -- SFH 23:58, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
    • They should have their own userbox.

  • Why does the criminal infobox have to be "evil"? If someone's a criminal, they're a criminal, regardless of their personal motives. For smugglers with a notable bias toward the Alliance or the Empire, it wouldn't be a problem to use those infoboxes. For the rest of 'em, they're criminals, which says little about their character other than the fact that they don't follow the established order, whether that be the Republic, Empire, or New Republic. — SavageBob 16:23, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
  • If they weren't breaking somebody's laws or regulations, they would called Shippers, not Smugglers. :) Finlayson 03:55, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
    • Good point. Smuggling is a crime by definition, if smuggling is legal, it's not smuggling, it's shipping. The Alliance may have contacted smugglers, but it couldn't acknowledge these contacts as legal. Although I don't know the details. - Sikon [Talk] 06:31, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
      • Smugglers mainly broke Imperial and local laws/tarrifs. - Finlayson 14:30, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Let me ask you this: Talon Karrde is a major smuggling kingpin, who owes no allegiance but to the people he works with and those that work for him. He's an honorable, decent guy who happens to be in some shady business. His allegiance is to the Smugglers' Alliance, which, while allied with the New Republic/Galactic Alliance, is independent of those two organizations. Do you really think he deserves the same infobox as Jabba Desilijic Tiure, Xizor, Durga, and a bunch of other criminals? -- SFH 18:55, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
    • It's not a question of who deserves what. It's a question of what is the definition of "criminal". Does Talon Karrde break the law? If so, he's a criminal. Robin Hood was a criminal. So was V in V for Vendetta. Being a criminal does not equal bad, which a lot of people seem to be assuming. — SavageBob 20:19, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
