A few questions on these lines; I don't have enough knowledge of the expanded universe to answer them:
1) For the most part, in the Star Wars universe, it almost seems that sexual attraction is universal even between species. No one seems physically attracted to Hutts (except possibly other Hutts), but everyone seems attracted to Humans and Twi'leks. Even Dugs and Hutts themselves, which are not even humanoid.
2) Do any sources specify which species can interbreed to produce offspring (e.g. mule)? How about species that can actually produce viable offpsring (e.g. Gray Wolves and some others of the Canis genus)? I see that the Near-Human article claims some of these can interbreed, but it doesn't get very specific.
3) Are there any examples of characters in the Star Wars universe who are of mixed species (e.g. Garona the Half-Orc)?

As always, much thanks. -BaronGrackle 22:33, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

    • There actually havn't been any cross species yet, but yes an interesting point, personally i think Hutts are rather phit :P Jedi Dude 22:36, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Well even though this doesn't answer your original question of what specific species are capable of cross-breeding, I suggest maybe we should make a new category for Beings of mixed species for characters like Rystáll and Ailyn Vel (Human/Kiffar mix). Then we could get an idea of what the most common species are (besides Human).DarthMaul431 01:35, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
    • Some species can and some can't. Some near-humans may be of the same genus as humans.--Darth OblivionComlinkSith Emblem 01:52, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
      • Patches was half human half nondisclosed aliens but according to the rogue squadron books humans and selonians and humans and bothans are genetically incompatable. Ugluk: Destroyer of Redlinks 02:42, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
  • In Star Wars, it's generally accepted that the only a species and its "near-species" offshoots can produce fertile offspring. In other words, humans can crossbreed with any near-human, and vice versa, and Duros can crossbreed with Neimoidian, etc. QuentinGeorge 06:26, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Can Hutts cross breed with Orooturooans ? I'm just wondering. --Jabbathehuttgartogg Jabba'sDesilijicClanTattoo-SWFF Jabba'sDesilijicClanTattoo-SWFF 22:39, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the ready answers, everyone! Looking through, it is interesting that Ailyn Vel was in fact able to reproduce with a Human, giving birth to Mirta Gev and verifying that Humans and Kiffars can produce viable offspring (as opposed to the barren kind, like when donkeys and horses breed mules). -BaronGrackle 11:20, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
    • Kiffar are Human. They're no less human than Hapans or Korunnai or Lorrdians. Havac 20:55, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
      • Right. Most near-humans would be classified as just different cultures, races or sub-species in the real world. -LtNOWIS 21:05, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
