Which Star Destroyer class (example: Eclipse , Imperial 1, Venator, Victory 2) is the best?

  • Eclipse-class Star Dreadnought. Its superlaser can shatter a planet's crust. Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 23:09, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Well, I guess that's dependent on what qualities you think are best in a Star Destroyer. The Eclipse wasn't really a Star Destroyer in the techincal sense, but it was certainly the most powerful of all of those you mention. However, I doubt it was very cost-efficient, and it doesn't have a great service record either. I'd lean towards the Imperial-class as the best all-rounder, given it's popularity. -LtNOWIS 23:21, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
    • Well, if you're talking about firepower, it's definitely the Eclipse-class. Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 23:25, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
      • There's far too many factors, but as agreed, the Eclipse wins for firepower. However, I prefer the Sovereign since it is nearly as powerful, whilst shaving off a rather hefty amount of volume. The savings financially are excellent. However, the Venator is the best Star Destroyer if you want a carrier. The Tector is probably the most solid in a fleet engagement, with more space from the subtraction of the hangar to devote to shields and weaponry I would expect. If what you're after is a small crew, I expect the Chiss Star Destroyer is the best.

What I'm trying to say is that there's no one 'best' Star Destroyer. If there were a certain scenario, then yes, one could likely be concluded, but not with the question as it is. And I'd like to state right here and now that the 'Imperial'-class is not well liked by myself. I find it spreads itself too thin, and there's mammoth amounts of empty volume according to some of the guys I know who've done a few calculations. I'm also personally of the opinion that it wasn't overly more powerful than a Venator or Victory, but let's not go into that here. Orpheus 12:57, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Like others have said, the Eclipse-class take the crown, firepower-wise. It's a bit difficult to decide what is "better", as most serve different purposes in the navies. The Venator-class and Victory-class are evenly matched in power, but the Venators focus more on carrier-capability than the Victorys. The Imperator-class (Imperial) is a jack-of-all-trades, pulling destroyer-duty and escorting larger ships, while also being able to go into deep space on its own, like a cruiser. I guess, compared to the Venator and Victory, the Imperator can hold its own more easily. Then there's the Tector-class, which would stand a better chance in a ship-to-ship fight, as it lacks hangars all together (and therefore has no potential openings for enemy fire). • Probably not the best place to ask this question, however. Try the TFN forums. This isn't really the function of the Wiki, and the question is not a factual one per se.
