Star Wars wiki, that is: Jedipedia [1] It looks to be all in German, though. - Dark Spork 18:19, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

I wonder if it would be possible to set up interlanguage links like at Wikipedia. — SavageBob 19:12, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
  • That would be good...although I wouldn't be able to help at all. My mom speaks German, though.

--DarthCow--Talk| Email 01:25, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

  • If they don't mind becoming an official sister project of Wookiee', then I see no problem. Different language Uncyclopedias already have multilingual links, and some editions aren't even Wikia-hosted. - Sikon [Talk] 04:27, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
    • Does anybody on Wokieepedia speak German, i could use Google translater but thats infamous for being crap at translating. Jasca Ducato 08:47, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Now how do you say "there is another" in German? ;) -- Riffsyphon1024 09:04, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
    • "Es gibt andere" (i think :-$) Jasca Ducato 09:10, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
      • Any volunteers from Category:User de want to pop by and say "Guten tag!"? —Silly Dan (talk) 11:44, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
        • From the looks of it they need a hell of a lot of help if they're to reach Wookieepedias standards, a hell of a lot. Jasca Ducato 18:54, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
          • Well, we have been around longer, and we are writing in the original language of all of the primary sources (other than some of the old RPG magazines Jaymach's come across), so it's no surprise we're ahead. All the more reason for any German-speakers here to help out. —Silly Dan (talk) 19:07, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
            • I took the liberty of leaving a message in a Users talk page (cant remember who) that was listed as a native speaker of German so hopefully he'll respond. Actually, i think i'l check for USers over there who speak English as well. Jasca Ducato 19:37, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

  • RC-9393: Jasca Ducato just informed me about the "Jedipedia problem". I'm a german native speaker and I guess I could assist you with any translation matters. I didn't follow the discussion so far, so I'm afraid I need a short briefing about your plans. Tell me how I can support you - I'm up for it! Btw, if you have any other english - german translation questions (for example, about specific sayings etc.), don't hesitate to ask. 20:07 GMT 21 May 2006
    • Basically, not long ago Dark Spork found a German version of Wookieepedia called Jedipedia (see the links). As you know it is Wookieepedia's aim to expand, and assist; this includes foreign speaking wikis. As far as I know, we want to set up as sister projects and hopefully help Jedipedia to expand their articles enormously. They do need alot of help. Jasca Ducato 19:12, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
      • Yes, basically we're just looking at cross-linking our articles (like on Wikipedia, the little "in other languages" box on the left). If they approve, I can mention the matter to the relevant Wikia staff to set the links up. While we're at it, we could setup links to the Spanish/French Wookieepedias, as well. RMF 19:16, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
        • Yes, I checked out the link - they only have 279 articles so far. They definitely need some expansion... If Wikia staff agrees, I volunteer for linking the corresponding german and english articles. RC-9393 19:22, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
          • I don't think the Wikia staff will have a problem with it, we just need you to contact the German wiki to see if they approve. :) And sure, you can do the linking. RMF 19:30, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
            • Okay - I will. However, I never did something like this with Wiki formatting, so when you are ready to go, I need a short example of how to set up the required links / boxes and how they eventually should look like. If anyone could copy / paste a formatted code example for me (here or in my personal discussion space), this would be quite helpful :) RC-9393 19:39, 21 May 2006 (UTC)RC-9393
              • Sure, once the links are setup it's actually quite straighforward. I can't give any specific details because it depends on how the Wikia staff set it up, but it will probably look something like this: [[de:Hauptseite]]. You would insert that text at the bottom of our main page to link to their main page, for example. I'll post more specifically if/when the links get setup. RMF 19:44, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
                • Sounds pretty easy. Give me a call when we're ready to go :) RC-9393 19:49, 21 May 2006 (UTC)RC-9393
                  • Well, before I mention it to Wikia I want to make sure we have Jedipedia's permission. Did they say yes? RMF 19:54, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
  • I sent the request to the german Jedipedia and introduced them to the project. I also offered myself as a german speaking contact and created a discussion space on their website. I will keep you informed about their reactions. RC-9393 21:39, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
'Scuse me jumping in :) but it would be great if you could also mention that Wikia is always willing to give them a home here if they need to change hosts. It happens quite frequently with self-hosted wikis as they grow, and it's easy for them to disappear at that point. So if they can keep us in mind as a possible host, that would be great. Thanks -- sannse (talk) 13:36, 22 May 2006 (UTC) (Wikia community team)
Done :) I added this information. So far, we only got one reaction (a positive one), but I'm waiting for the official admin's answer. There is currently not much traffic on Jedipedia. RC-9393 08:35, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Another thing you may want to consider if we don't get a response in the next couple of days is leaving a note on the admin's talk page, so he gets the "You have new messages" box the next time he logs in. On a site with little traffic, he might not check recent changes or watchlist often. RMF 02:57, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
They have 3 admins / sysops and I left messages on their talk pages, together with a direct link to our request. RC-9393 08:24, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Update

I was contacted by one of the 3 Jedipedia admins - my multiple messages obviously woke them up ;). She thanked us for the opportunity to cooperate with Wookieepedia and told me that the staff will discuss the matter. Once they decide upon the request, she will drop me a line. I will keep you informed. RC-9393 15:06, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

"Jedipedia is happy to agree to a cooperation with Wookieepedia" - Official answer!

Latest news: The Jedipedia staff officially agreed to a cooperation with Wookieepedia. They allowed us to link their articles and will link their articles to Wookieepedia articles in return. Jedipedia also announces this planned cooperation / link exchange to their members and visitors. They told me that they are very happy and proud about becoming part of the international Star Wars community.

We are ready to go! :) RC-9393 08:15, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Well there is no problem with this from Wikia's point of view, so if all here are happy, I'll ask Jason to set it up. It seems a good time to get him to add the other language versions here on wikia as well - even if not all will be used for a while (ru in particular looks dead). Does that sound OK with you here? -- sannse (talk) 20:14, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry i haven't been on this forum for a while. Been busy, good work RC-9393, you did well. And yea, i for one am OK with it going ahead. DUnno about the others though. Jasca Ducato 20:57, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Heh, I didn't even know we had a Russian version. But yes, that sounds excellent. RMF 01:03, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello Wookieepedians,
it's excellent how you try to get a partnership with the Jedipedia. I have been able to follow up your plans since I am working in the Jedipedia. There is a rather big Star Wars fan community in Germany. However, the Jedipedia is still very unknown because it can't operate any advertising. According to this we have a few number of articles.
Thanks for your engagement and your support. That's a great action.

Any news about the interlanguage links? I just discovered the language links on top of the Wookieepedia Main Page. Tell me when I can start crosslinking Jedipedia articles. RC-9393 18:49, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

We're still waiting for the Wikia tech guy to set them up; I'll leave a reminder message on his talk page shortly. RMF 19:09, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Sorry about the delay - all is set up now. To link to another version, just add [[xx:page name]] to the article (where xx is the language code, and "page name" is the name of the page in the language you are linking to.) the links show up on the side bar below the Wikia box. Most of the links go to the other language versions on Wikia, the de. link goes to http://www.starwars-chroniken.de as agreed here :)
See the main pages of the Wikia versions to see how it all works. -- sannse (talk) 09:42, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you very much! I will start with the language cross-linking right away. Some questions: where should I place the links (at the bottom of a site, but in which section?). I just tested the link on my own user site and created a blue link within the article looking like "de:name_of_the_linked_site" which lead to the Jedipedia. It worked, but this looked somewhat odd and it didn't appear in the side bar below the wiki box either. Did I miss anything? And - any suggestions about how I should name the links? I could include the german name of the linked page or something like "german version of this article". RC-9393 15:01, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Oh, I accidentally checked the minor edit box. It wasn't a minor edit, of course

... RC-9393

The links should be placed at the very bottom of an article, below even the categories. They should be named according to the article name on the site you are linking to; example – to link to the German version of Episode I, I would put the following at the end of the article: [[de:Star Wars: Episode I – Die dunkle Bedrohung]]. It is done the same with the other languages [3], as well. Hope this helps. RMF 15:54, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you, Rmfitzgerald50, this was a good explanation and an even better example... now it works perfectly and the language box appears below the wiki box. RC-9393 16:12, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jedipedia moved to new server

Hello again - the Jedipedia grew and flourished over the past few months and I became an admin of the Jedipedia in the meantime. The interwiki links for existing articles are done (both here and on the Jedipedia) and I update them on both wikis with each new article. I posted a request on the admin board, but I didn't get a reaction so far, so I want to ask to have a look at this topic: Forum:Jedipedia_moved_to_new_server We should adjust the interwiki-links to the German Star Wars wiki accordingly. Thank you! RC-9393 19:03, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
