I noticed that the Varactyl is on the Gallery of Races and Species, which would suggest that it is Sentient, but there is no evidence pointing to it being so, and it is not on the List of Sentient species, so i suggest it be removed. AzureAngel 17:39, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Actually Races indicates sentience. and Species indicates non-sentient creatures. - JMAS 19:07, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
    • That is fine, but then should we not include other Races then? Like the Zalaaca? It dose not matter to me either way, but we have to decide one way or the other and then complete the Galary according to what we decide. So we either have to take all non-sentient creatures out, or put them all in. AzureAngel 04:22, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
      • In my view this Gallery should be for sentient species. -- Volemlock 12:18, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
        • It matters little to me either way. Gallery of Races and Species can be only for sentient beings, and that's fine. But then there needs to be one for only non-sentient creatures as well. - JMAS 13:08, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
          • In that case, could we drop "and Species" from the title? It becomes redundant.--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 22:00, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
            • I'd agree.AzureAngel 22:21, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
              • Ditto. Maybe change it to "Gallery of Sentient Species" and "Gallery of of Non-sentient Creatures"? - JMAS 05:37, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
    • I'm inclined to agree with the Star Wars Sourcebook on the matter of races and species: "Many people in the galaxy use the word "race" when referring to various aliens. While common, this usage is wrong. The proper term for each alien is "species," as "race" is a term used to denote different sub-groups of a particular species, distinguished by differing physical characteristics. This distinction is an important one because, like Humans, many alien species have a number of races." jSarek 06:04, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
      • I like JMAS's suggestion. What do we do about semi-sentients, anyway?--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 06:08, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
        • JSarek is absolutely right. There are different human, Twi'lek and Aqualish races, but only one species of each.--Sompeetalay 18:21, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
          • What is the dividing line that differentiates between non-sentient and semi-sentient? Have three galleries maybe? Sentient Species, Semi-Sentient Species and Non-sentient Species (or Creatures)? - JMAS 18:32, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
            • Then how would we determine what goes in Semi-sentient and Non-sentient? Where would Zalaacas fit in? they arnt sentinent but they are smart creatures capabal of extream loyalty, and rancors while dumb can be trained, i think we should just have a Sentient Species gallery and a Beast catagory, or something other than beasts that is comprised of every "animal" so that all varactyl, zalaaca, rancor, wampa, tauntun, dewback, bantha, and creatures as such. Because the line between Semi-sentient and non-sentient is too blured.AzureAngel 21:07, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
              • I think Zalaacas and Rancors would be non-sentient, personally. A creature I would put in the semi-sentient category would be those along the lines of a Gorax from Endor. But honestly, I don't know where you draw the line between non and semi when it comes to sentience. - JMAS 23:30, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
