In the light of the recent vandalist attacks, don't you think we need more admins? I mean, optimally we should have so many admins that there would always be at least one admin online to block vandals and repair the damage. KEJ 13:15, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Good idea, I just reverted around 16 articles... Darth Kevinmhk 13:35, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
  • SparqMan has already stated that we do not need anymore admins but work on what we have already. And vandalism is being dealt with properly as it is. -- Riffsyphon1024 20:23, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
    • Besides, if we got more admins, they'd probably come from the same time zones as existing admins, meaning we'd have five admins active sometimes and none at other times. —Silly Dan (talk) 20:29, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
      • I've been trying to map our admins out across the globe as best as possible. I'll release something soon. -- Riffsyphon1024 20:30, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
        • See User:Riffsyphon1024/Admins. -- Riffsyphon1024 21:11, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
          • I have a suggestion: Why not give some people limited administrator powers? For example, give someone who is trusted the power to ban vandals, but only that power. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 21:17, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
            • The power to block users is probably the most easily abused power an administrator has: anyone who could be trusted with that power may as well be a full admin. Besides, I think we can't create a new grade of user between registered user and sysop: we'd have to ask Wikia's software people to do that. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:21, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
              • True. Just a suggestion. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 21:23, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
                • (Actually, the Wikia people did create an intermediate level when they stopped very new users from high-speed page moving: this did cut down on on-wheels vandalism, which is slightly tougher to revert than simple page blanking or nonsense about gay Wookiees.) —Silly Dan (talk) 21:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Again: more admins does not equal less vandalism. It might stop a spree more quickly, but not by much. --SparqMan 21:24, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
    • Yes, but still, it helps reduce the vandal's effect on Wookieepedia. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 21:25, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
      • Not by much, since we're reverting vandalism pretty quickly anyway. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
        • Yeah, but what if no administrators are on for a while? Then, us regular Wookieepedians could be overwhelmed by the vandalism, and many articles would be vandalized. True, when an admin shows up, everything gets quickly reverted, but still, you get my point, right? Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 21:29, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
          • There's likely to be a Wikia staffer online almost all the time: you can pop by #wikia or the central wikia and ask one of them. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:36, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I still think we need at least one more admin besides Sikon who is good at tweaking the MediaWiki stuff. -- Darth Culator 22:58, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
    • If a new user level is to be created, you can consider giving them quick revert power instead of banning power, a less likely power to be abused. Darth Kevinmhk 12:13, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
      • I think that there should be 1 admin per 1500 to 2000 articles. And if there is a level between admin and registered user, you should have contributed for at least 4 months. And instead of giving them the power to ban, you should give them quick revert power, (as mentioned above), and you could give them the power to protect articles. Roron Corobb 12:54, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
          • I agree that the quick revert and ability to protect articles would be a lot better than banning for this "new user level" if it is ever created. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 13:00, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
            • Quick revert I can agree with (as it is quite handy), but I can see the article protect option being abused. Maybe offering only the semi-protection option to non-admins would be an alternative? StarNeptuneTalk to me! 00:59, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
              • You mean when only registered users can edit pages? If so, I think a new user level should be created soon. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 01:04, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
                • I think there should be 3 levels if one is created. One would be new user, a person who has contributed for 2 months or less and has little/no articles made or contributions. They would have the abilities of a registered user now.
    • Culator, that was the very reason I nominated RMF, only to have SparqMan screw it up. I'm so angry at him. - Sikon [Talk] 08:08, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Next would be regular user, this type would have the ability to semi-protect and would have some notable contributions (which basically means at least a couple articles that arent stubs), and would be able to quick revert. This type must also have contributed somewhat regularly for 2 months or more with NO vandalism or other harmful attempts at the wiki, same as always.

Next would be administrator which would be able to bla, bla, bla. You get the point. 01:19, 5 August 2006 (UTC) Note:This was done by Roron Corobb who forgot to sign on.

  • Quick reversion would be handy, but it won't reduce the amount of vandalism, but allows us to react more quickly. I also think we need more admins. - TopAce 12:39, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
    • as the wiki expands, so will its fame, which means more ppl will come to it, for good or bad, either new levels or more admins are needed. for sure Jedi Dude 12:40, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
      • Ill make a voting forum on what we should do in Consensus Track Roron Corobb 17:54, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
        • Okay, I guess having a new user level isn't really a good idea. But nontheless, I still feel that more administrators are needed. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 23:45, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
          • Need more either way; full admins or mid-level admins. -Finlayson 03:45, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
            • I'm going to try to become an admin, but as of now I have not met all of the criteria.--Darth Oblivion 03:30, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
