Is anyone else finding people making larger and larger edits, yet still clicking "minor edit"? Perhaps it's intended to not draw attention to controversial edits... at any rate, what IS a minor edit? Personally, I don't think the addition of a whole sentence is minor; rewording, spelling, and grammar are. Cutch 05:46, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Some people may have the option in the preferences screen set to "Mark all edits minor by defaut", and just forget to uncheck them. Minor edits should be like fixing a line break, minor spelling and grammar corrections, and other small edits. StarNeptuneTalk to me! 05:57, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
  • The way I view it is, if I add or subtract *any* information, or I perform more than three alterations of any kind, it's not a minor edit. Thus, in my internal system, some minor edits (e.g. moving a sentence, or splitting a sentence in two and adding the required grammatical words to make the unchanged information make sense) are actually "larger" than non-minor edits (e.g. adding a title to an officer's name or deleting a fanon species from an infobox). Best rule of thumb? When in doubt, leave "minor" out. jSarek 06:31, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
  • To me, it's more important to use an accurate edit summary than it is to flag minor edits (though I still do so, when the situation applies). I would rather describe my changes in the summary and let other editors decide on their own if viewing my changes is worth their time (though, most of the time, it isn't :) ). • IMHO, a sentence or two of new or changed content is a minor edit, as are adding links, spelling, etc. Kuralyov 08:00, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
  • You're right. A minor edit is a spelling fix, grammar fix, date fix, layout fix, etc. Not adding a sentence. — SavageBob 02:21, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
    • The only case where I'd consider adding or deleting a sentence minor would be if you had just made a major edit yourself, and you added or deleted a sentence to the bit you just wrote (making the minor edit sort of part of the major one). —Silly Dan (talk) 02:34, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
