Hello, this is Exiledjedi, and I would like to have an idea on what articles need the most work here at the start of 2011. I've looked at the things to do on the main page, but the list is huge! This posting will hopefully collect a smaller list of more important topics that need work rather than the large things to do list.
This forum is for the collection of articles that you think should have top priority for work. Please include an explanation of why you thnik a particular page should be worked on.
If there are any pages that I have sources for I will be happy to work on those pages, but if I do not have sources on a partcular topic please feel free to find someone who can do a better job than me.
I hope this page helps take care of the articles in need of help on Wookieepedia. Thank you for your time.--Exiledjedi 16:41, January 3, 2011 (UTC)
- Category:We're Doomed! and Category:Articles in need of major additions are pretty much lists of articles that are "in need of major work". NAYAYEN—it appears to be a frammistat 17:01, January 3, 2011 (UTC)
- You might also do well just to browse the Wookieepedia maintenance category. NAYAYEN—it appears to be a frammistat 17:04, January 3, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Nayayen.--Exiledjedi 17:31, January 3, 2011 (UTC)
The only problem with these listings is that they do not elaborate on what needs to be done with the article. When you look at some of these articles it is hard to see exactly what needs to be done.--Exiledjedi 17:39, January 3, 2011 (UTC)
- I like your ambition, ExiledJedi! What you might try is to select an article from one of those lists that interests you, then ask for people's feedback here on what might need to be done to improve it. ~ SavageBob 19:56, January 3, 2011 (UTC)
- Or maybe article talk pages could be used. There is a reference to the talk page in those templates, if I'm not mistaken. And that's what the talk pages are for, even if people here tend to ignore them.--Dionne Jinn (Something to say?) 20:01, January 3, 2011 (UTC)
- I think one of our biggest shortcomings is not articles we have already that need work, it's articles that don't even exist on the wiki yet. Go through some of the old, original West End Games sourcebooks from the late 80s, early 90s and you might be very surprised to see just how much stuff isn't on this wiki yet. If you feel like hunkering down and working on something, I'd say tackle that type of thing. Or even just going through those old sourcebooks and adding things to Appearances/Sources lists of other articles. Toprawa and Ralltiir 20:15, January 3, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the ideas.--Exiledjedi 02:07, January 4, 2011 (UTC)
- You'll find most of them in Category:We're Doomed!, as Nayayen pointed out, but pretty much every major character from any of the movies is in need of major work. It's mostly due to the sheer amount of sources that they appear in, but if you're up for it, Han, Luke, Leia, Chewie, Threepio, Artoo, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme, etc, etc, could definitely use some handiwork. As for what specifically needs to be done, there are any number of novels and comics that you could summarize their role in. Menkooroo 03:13, January 4, 2011 (UTC)
As I see it, the biggest problems are the least known ones. That is to say, while characters from the films and characters that have been in many, many novels are always going to need work, they're at least there and at a reasonable standard of quality. While so many people concentrate on those problems, huge pieces of content are simply forgotten because the sources are so obscure. Old sourcebooks and young adult novels often need huge amounts of work to cover all the content introduced but few people are working on the articles.
Most of my time is spent on improving the pages for some of the young adult novel characters and events. If you have any of those books, you're probably going to find a lot of articles that are either there as placeholders that never got filled in, or older writing lacking the context that's you need for a comprehensive/good/featured article. So I would suggest you work on obscure things, if you don't know what to do yet, you could try helping with these articles. There are probably enough people covering Luke Skywalker anyway.
