So, I'm making a go at saving Gotal from losing its FA status, but it's a tall order. Basically, the article, while still well written, was made a Featured Article in another era, when we didn't require that all sources be mined for information before a topic could be considered comprehensive. I plan to do all I can for the article, but, realistically speaking, I don't think I'll be able to do the amount of work needed on my own. For that reason, I'm listing the appearances and sources for the article below, with the hopes that other Gotal-huggers can pitch in and add missing information. The Gotal article doesn't currently do this, but I'd suggest sourcing to individual page numbers/chapters/issues whenever possible.
If you decide to help out, please strike out any appearance or source you have consulted and added info from so that others can focus on those that remain. Oh, and know that the Gotals love you! ~ SavageBob 00:40, November 20, 2010 (UTC)

- Confirmed that info comes from CSWE and sourced. ~ SavageBob 06:34, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
- I see you've ordered the article appearance list to place Twi'light Storm in c. 22 BBY. I'm just curious about your reasoning for that, because if you've found a source to specifically date TS, I would be very happy to know about it, because of the vagueness of Living Force dating. I ask because the combined interation of the Living Force Campaign Guide and Philology would suggest a c. 21 BBY date, because the LFCG dates the Living Force campaign to 31 BBY, and Philology pushes the campaign ten years into the future from that date. --Jinzler 14:40, January 13, 2011 (UTC)
- I think it's based on the Noric Gestal article, which lists a range of c. 22 BBY to 19 BBY. I erred toward the larger side of those two, but as the "c." shows, I didn't want to profess any certainty. I've moved the appearance down, though, to fall at the bottom of the 22 BBY range. ~ SavageBob 16:15, January 13, 2011 (UTC)
- Fair enough, that should probably be okay. Although it is probably worth mentioning that the dates given in the Gestal article seem to just be derived from the fact that he died during the Clone Wars, as they are not given in either of the sources he features in. --Jinzler 10:31, January 14, 2011 (UTC)

Star Wars: Clone Wars — "Chapter 21"- Gotal in the crowd on Coruscant. I suppose we could do an Unidentified Gotal (Coruscant crowd), but it seems superfluous to me. ~ SavageBob 04:32, December 17, 2010 (UTC)

X-Wing: Wedge's Gamble- Chapter 19: Gavin and the Rogues are at the Azure Dianoga and a Gotal is seated in the next booth over. After some stormtroopers leave, the Bothan Asyr Sei'lar asks Gavin to dance. When he declines, the Gotal, having misread his emotions, names Gavin a liar and a bigot, and the aliens capture him and the other Rogues for their own anti-Imperial purposes. Chapter 23: The Gotal's name is Mnor Nha. Nawara Ven defends Gavin against the charges of bigotry, but the aliens decide to execute Gavin anyway; Mnor was about to shoot him when the gathering is broken up by Imperials. X-Wing: The Krytos Trap (Mentioned only)- Chapter 3: Leia explains to Wedge why Tycho needs to be put on trial—"That shouldn't have anything to do with Tycho, but it does because Tycho is a human, accused of a heinous crime against a fellow Rebel and a man who is now a hero. If we do not bring him to trial quickly and let the trial take its course, we will be accused of favoring a human. People will suggest that were Tycho a Gotal or Quarren, we'd have tried, convicted, and executed him inside of a day. That charge is baseless, but it's critical we avoid any appearance of favoritism." And Chapter 16: Iella Wessiri is a witness at trial and describes her CorSec partnership with Corran—"Some partners get to know each other so well that they almost get this Gotal-sense of being able to read each other's moods and react in situations without a word being spoken." Winchester 327 08:35, January 31, 2011 (UTC)
X-Wing: Solo CommandThe Courtship of Princess Leia- Chapter 1: A bearded grey Gotal diplomat is standing next to Mon Mothma when the Hapans arrive. Chapter 5: Han is playing sabacc against several individuals, including this same Gotal. He is grey-skinned and playing with his eyes closed, using his sensory horns to probe the other players' emotions. The Gotal called Han's bet and raised him 40 million credits; he then had to shield his left horn against the overwhelming nervous emotion he felt from Han, and this caused the other players to call Han's bet. Later the Gotal misread Han's excitement that they were both doing better than the other players, thinking Han simply had him beat. In the end, Han won the game and the Gotal ambassador collapsed into "barking" noises that Han took for sobs. Winchester 327 08:35, January 31, 2011 (UTC)
Tatooine Ghost- Chapter 4: The holocube of Anakin Skywalker (after winning the Boonta Eve Classic) is auctioned off and won by a "shaggy-chinned Gotal in a much-patched jumpsuit." The winning price was an "amazing" 1,300 credits, and despite the fact that the Gotal looks very poor, "the smile on his flat face could not have been wider" because Anakin is somewhat of a legend. Winchester 327 08:59, January 31, 2011 (UTC)
Dark Force Rising (Mentioned only)The Last Command- Chapter 10: Talon Karrde meets some contacts at the Whistler's Whirlpool on Trogan; Mazzic is accompanied by a Gotal named Lishma. When the party is ambushed by Imperials, Lishma is killed in the ensuing firefight, despite the fact that he was unarmed. Karrde is genuinely saddened by this, as he had "always rather liked the Gotal people." Mazzic was even more hurt by the loss of his friend Lishma, as was Par'tah, another contact. Lishma's death spurred them to pay the Empire back. Chapter 15: Karrde is ruminating on the Force-hunting abilities of his vornskr Drang, and on Force sensitivity in general, and reflects that the Gotal race has a fairly useless form of Force sensitivity. - Shouldn't this be accompanied by an Unidentified Gotal thug article? --Eyrezer 07:10, November 29, 2010 (UTC)
- That's a good question, actually. We don't seem to be very consistent on our notability-of-background-characters-in-comics policy. Specifically with regard to Legacy, all of the unidentified Sith from Broken have articles, but recent story arcs like Monster and Extremes produced scores of unidentified Sith that nobody's created articles for. Is there anything concrete in our notability policy on background characters? Menkooroo 07:00, December 22, 2010 (UTC)
- As far as I know there isn't. This project in particular has made me realize there probably should be, not just for background comic characters but for background movie, TV, and novel characters as well. For instance, if Han scans a cantina and sees "a Gotal, a Herglic, and a Ranat," do those three need articles? My personal rule of thumb is that if the minor character plays some role in the story's plot beyond background filler, they deserve an article. But this is probably worth a SH thread at least. ~ SavageBob 14:52, December 22, 2010 (UTC)
