I want to start my own wiki about star wars book's comic's and novels,I believe it would be good for Wookieepedia because this wiki should focus on the star wars universe but not book's.So I want permission to start something like that Merchandise wiki but about book's. • I can tell you right now this won't be a very popular suggestion. Most users are already upset about others trying to create "splinter-wikis." Basically, novels are already covered on Wookeepedia, and anything about novels that isn't already covered here would fall into the Merchandise Wiki's domain. -- Ozzel 18:07, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Well I still think that their should be a book wiki, but do you have any other idea's because I really want to start a wiki because that merchandise wiki focuses on action figure's. Troyb 18:11, 23 March 2007 (UT
    • Actually, the Merchandise Wiki features all merchandise, be it Action Figures, LEGO sets, collectables, trading cards, and even books and comics, albiet only condensed versions that provide info on the book itself, not what's contained. JorrelWiki-shrinkableFraajic 18:34, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Very well, but I need to ask you something. Can I please be an admin,I know,I know I have asked before but please! I have great knowlege On merchandise so can I please be a admin Troyb 18:38, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
    • You can't just ask to be an Admin. There's a process for that. See RfA. -Fnlayson 18:55, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Not here, over at the Merchandise wiki. Troyb 18:56, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I don't see the problem in you starting a wiki on books. I don't think you need Wookieepedia's permission to do that. It's not like Wookieepedia had monopoly on everything that's Star Wars on Wikia. Wookieepedia doesn't own the merchandice Wiki, so here's not the right place to ask to be made an admin of the merchandise wiki. You'll have to go to the merchandise wiki and ask them there. KEJ 19:15, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • O.K. but I will need someone's help and I geuss I don't really need permission.But could you help? Troyb 19:17, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
    • I could probably do some edits, but these days, I'm too busy IRL to do wiki-work. KEJ 19:21, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
      • "I don't think you need Wookieepedia's permission to do that." Actually, you might. According to Riff, "...Splarka has considered having Wookieepedia go through the new requests for SW wikis that form." -- Ozzel 19:47, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
        • When and if that's implemented, yes, you might need Wookieepedia's permission, but until that becomes a reality rather than just something someone's considering, I'd say you don't need Wookieepedia's permission. KEJ 20:16, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I think I will think about it. Troyb 20:31, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

KEJ: The problem with starting a Wiki that overlaps with our mandate, or that of SW Merch, is that it divides the wiki labor pool and makes it harder for readers to know where the best source of information is. Troyb: Being an admin isn't that big a deal. It gives you a couple of handy tools, mostly for vandalism control, and that's it. If you want to be an admin at Merch, go through their RfA process; if they don't have one yet, propose one. But remember, people are going to be voting based on your existing edit record, so you'd better have already shown exemplary editing skills and hard work in making that wiki a better place. If you just want to be an admin and you don't care where, try and branch out from Star Wars. There are still plenty of topics worthy of the Wiki treatment that don't have a Wiki yet. jSarek 21:51, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I don't think a books wiki would overlap with our mandate, since we don't really go in.depth with the star wars books as tomes. Perhaps it overlaps with the mandate of the merch wiki, though. Still, Troyb doesn't need Wookieepedia's permission. He neeed Wikia's permission though. KEJ 22:15, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
    • We...can go in depth with the books, provided it's not OR. .... 23:41, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Well maybe we can move everything about book's on to the wiki. Also can I post my main image here for everyone to see for the page if I'm allowed to start this wiki. Troyb 00:16, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I do not support another splinter wiki. Keep the edits here as much as possible and don't be redundant with our information. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:19, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I too oppose the idea. .... 05:27, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
  • The reason the splinter Merch Wiki was a good idea was because many folks didn't want that type of info on Wookieepedia. Books are different... I for one would like to see all our "book" articles expanded. And it sounds like you really want to start the book wiki just for the sake of starting a wiki, whether it's needed or not. Maybe you could help us expand our book articles? It would be a great help to Wookieepedia. --Azizlight 05:52, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
    • This is what happens when other users just start wikis to become admins *cough*quin*cough. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:53, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
    • I can follow Azizlight. Personally, I think it would be better to expand the books articles on Wookieepedia, which have been neglected for far too long. Still, formally, Troyb does not need Wookieepedia's permission. If he wants to start a wiki on Wikia, he'll need their permission. I'm not in position to make any judgments or comments as to why he wants to start a new Star Wars wiki, so I'll refrain from that. I'm also not in the position to oppose or support the idea, since - as mentioned - Wookieepedia does not (as of yet) have the authority do decide which wikis should be created and which shouldn't. KEJ 09:54, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Maybe I will think about it,if you all think it's a bad idea then I will wait until the time is right. Also riffsyphon I just want to start a wiki because I think it is a good Idea not to become a admin O.K Troyb 12:39, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
