What precisely does this do when you click that link on an Image page? - JMAS 01:04, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

  • Heck if I know, it does nothing when I try it. Perhaps it doesn't work properly with Firefox 2.0 yet for some reason. It seems like a new, but unfinished feature released without explanation, or possibly complete testing...—Silly Dan (talk) 01:16, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
  • If you look at an image that has been tagged, you can see the effect. File:Skywalkersolofamily.jpg, for example. You hover over the tag list under the image and it outlines the item named in the tag. Only works if you have Javascript enabled, and I think we have an unrelated bug that keeps it from working in MSIE right now. It assumes anything you put in a tag is an article name, and lists images with the same tag. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 01:45, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
    • Oh, that makes sense. Thanks! —Silly Dan (talk) 03:23, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
      • I get it now. Thanks. - JMAS 04:25, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
        • So this is what the new Wikia update produces: Facebook like photo-tagging. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:32, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
          • Seems like such a breeding ground for vandalism. Gah. Wildyoda 15:15, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
            • It needs a couple of refinements, though: the tag log should contain links to the tagged images (making it easier to rollback spurious tags), and they should restrict tagging ability to those who can upload images. —Silly Dan (talk) 20:45, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
  • That's not the worst part—they can still tag after being blocked! -- SFH 21:20, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
    • Angela's been tracking that and let us know... Emil in Poland is working on it. Johnq 11:20, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
    • Tagged images still don't show up in IE7... —Xwing328(Talk) 04:28, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
  • If you guys have ideas for improvement on this please let me know. Thanks. Johnq 11:20, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
    • Yea, how come there isn't a link to the photo being tagged in case of vandalism? -- Riffsyphon1024 11:30, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
    • Do you mean in Recent Changes? Johnq 15:37, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
      • There, and in the tag log, image links are a must. And for some nitpicky stuff: on the dropdown list of logs, "tag" is just slapped at the end. The rest are all capitalized and in alphabetical order. Just change it to "Tag log" and stick it before "Upload log." And on the actual tag log, instead of a helpful description, we get this: "<>". And then finally, there's this, whatever that's supposed to be. -- Ozzel 23:48, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
        • Ok, cool. Forwarding these ideas to some of the engineers. Johnq 07:57, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Couple of things I noticed: First is a glitch ... it seems that if a tagged image gets deleted, the deleted image (or blank space left by lack of image file) doesn't get removed from the gallery generated by the tag. Second, is it possible to make the tagging box a little less bold and obtrusive, like maybe only a 2 or 3 pixels wide border? - JMAS 20:07, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
    • Interesting about the gallery. Forwarding. On the border... yes, actually this needs some cleanup. I was in Poland this week going through a bunch of cleanup items with them that will hit the site shortly... I'll put together one on the image tagging. Agree that the border is ugly. :) Johnq 20:24, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

I noticed that since Wikia was updating it servers today, the galleries generated by tagging an image are no longer accessible. When you click on the "Image" link on the tag, you get an error page saying:

    • Yes, we did some work today on that. There were some inefficient queries going on that we put some indexes into the database for. I'll send this note to the team in Poland to look at tonight. Johnq (talk) 06:43, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Another thing I've noticed on the Recent Changes is that when an image gets a tag removed, it doesn't link to what image had the tag removed, just what article that was tagged to. Any way we can get a link to the image to show on the Recent Changes page both when the image is tagged to an article (already does this) and when a tag is removed as well? I've seen anons remove tags and it would be nice to be able to check what image they removed it from. - JMAS 01:15, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
  • The special page still isn't working. --Steinninn 00:55, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Improvement suggestions[]

Johnq is putting together a list of suggestions, fixes, etc for this feature to pass along to the technical staff for this feature. Any ideas you have, or suggestions for improving this feature, please let him know on his Wikia talk page under the appropriate heading I've already started there. - JMAS 17:24, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Tagging isn't working right for me[]

I don't know if it's a javascript problem on my end or what (I have IE7), but when I entered the article name and hit the "Tag" button, it just sat there at "Adding tag...". After waiting 5 mintues, I refreshed the page and the tag showed up, but there was no log showing I did it. I tried this on File:Citportint.jpg and File:Citport.jpg. -- Reignfire 04:16, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

  • I've just had the same problem, except with removing tags. -- I need a name (Complain here) 20:24, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Forwarding to the engineers to have a look. Johnq (talk) 02:33, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
