This is the announcement and discussion page for the Happy Fun User Page Super Friendly Cleanup Project.

Details[]

What is the HFUPSFCP?[]

  • The HFUPSFCP is the long-needed cleanup of userpages which violate Wookieepedia policy.

Why is it called the "Happy Fun User Page Super Friendly Cleanup Project"???[]

  • Because some folks tend to get a bit touchy when people use the word "purge."

Why are we doing this?[]

  • Because we're evil and cruel.
  • No, really, because it needs to be done, and has needed to be done for a long time. We've had policies and made policies about userpages going back to the birth of Wookieepedia but enforcement has been sadly lacking. We are now going to enforce those policies in one fell swoop.

Policies? What policies?[]

  • The ones linked in the welcome template. The ones linked on the upload form. The ones people have been deliberately ignoring for two years.

Could you maybe be a little more specific?[]

  • We really shouldn't have to be.

No, seriously.[]

Section 1.6: Wookieepedia is not a free host or web page provider
Section 2.2: Wookieepedia is not a general-purpose message board
Section 3.1: Your user page is not your primary contribution to this wiki
  • Wookieepedia:User image policy:
    1. No more than 3 images should be uploaded which are intended solely for a userpage or customized signature.
    2. User images must be tagged with the {{user-image}} template.
    3. The total file size of these images must be below 500 kB.
    4. Images must be "safe for work."
  • Wookieepedia:User page and profile policy:
    1. User page fan fiction must be restricted to either the main user page or a single subpage.
    2. Secondary accounts set up primarily in order to have a second user page are disallowed.
    3. User pages must not be put in categories which would cause them to be mistaken for "real" articles.
    4. User subpages unrelated to Star Wars or Wookieepedia are not allowed.
  • Wookieepedia:No personal attacks
    1. Userpages, talk pages, and subpages must not contain attacks against specific individuals.
  • Therefore, we will be deleting userpages and user images according to the following guidelines:
  1. If your userpage does not comply with any Wookieepedia policy as the participating admins interpret them, it will be truncated or deleted.
  2. If you have more than three user images or more than 500 kilobytes worth of user images, they will be deleted. (Wookieepedia:User image policy, #1/#3)
  3. Images which are "not work safe" will be deleted. (Wookieepedia:User image policy, #4)
  4. If you are now contributing under a different username, the pages and images associated with your previous username will be deleted. (Wookieepedia:User page and profile policy, #2 / Wookieepedia:Sock puppetry)
  5. Excessively large fanon projects will be deleted. (Wookieepedia:What Wookieepedia is not, #1.6/#3.1)
  6. User talk pages that have been used as a general-purpose forum or chatroom will be deleted. (Wookieepedia:What Wookieepedia is not, #2.2)
  7. Guestbooks which exist as subpages will be deleted. Guestbooks which exist within a userpage will be removed. (Wookieepedia:What Wookieepedia is not, #2.2)
  8. Userpages with inappropriate categorization will be deleted. (Wookieepedia:User page and profile policy, #3)
  9. Userpages with personal attacks will be truncated or deleted. (Wookieepedia:No personal attacks)
  10. Userpages that have been edited to the exclusion of useful edits will be deleted. (Wookieepedia:What Wookieepedia is not, #3.1)

So how do I save my userpage from the impending turbodeletelasers of the HIMS Administratorius?[]

  • It's pretty simple, really.
  1. If you have multiple fanon subpages, consolidate them into one page or (preferably) copy them to the Star Wars Fanon Wiki and mark them for deletion yourself. You can keep one fanon subpage, but if you have more than one and none are marked for deletion, they will all be deleted.
  2. If you have more than three user images or more than 500KB of user images, mark enough of them for deletion to bring yourself under those limits. If you violate those limits and none of your images are marked for deletion, they will all be deleted.
  3. If you have a former username that has pages or files you wish to preserve, copy them to your current username -- while remaining compliant with all applicable policies.
  4. If you wish to maintain a guestbook or a chat page, do it on MySpace or a similar social networking site. You may link to there from your userpage. *Update* -- Wikia hosts a guestbook site. If you want a alternative to MySpace, use Wikia Guestbook.
  5. If your userpage is in an inappropriate category, remove the code that places it in that category.

How are you deciding what to delete?[]

  • Your administrators have compiled lists of what to delete. We are also accepting suggestions from all users for additional userpages and files to delete.

When is this going down?[]

  • Deletion commences at 8:30 PM Eastern time on Sunday March 25. This is 24 hours from when this project was announced in the site notice. Because they are functionally "junk articles" per the deletion policy, the 24 hour grace period isn't even technically required.

How do you justify this?[]

  • How do you justify breaking the rules for so long? This is not a change in policy. This is the long overdue enforcement of existing policy.

  • When I first saw this I was worried, but then when I actually read each point, it makes a lot of sense and really wouldn't affect that many users in a bad way. Good idea. Savossk 13:47, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Sounds good. Sometimes things are jsut too long. I realized I was speding too much time on my userpage and chatting with others that I forgot what I was doing. The last couple of weeks I am only on here to find articles that might need some sort of help, or maybe a redirect page. Its a shame though, I like the guest book. RC 2413 15:33, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Good idea. I would suggest that the HIMS Administratorius leave a message on the talk page of users who have a userpage/subpage/talk page deleted informing them why it was deleted. tzzA 18:53, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • If I only work on my user page does that mean it will be deleted? Because the only articles I edited (Real Articles) were to say one is a stub and (alledged) unnessesary info that got deleted anyway. Then i got alot of edits on my page, other userpages, other talkpages, and forums.Gyasz Kudeb 22:44, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Excuse me sir, but if you are a registered user here, what is the point if you're not going to contribute? This isn't a social club, I'm afraid. It's an encyclopedia. The idea is to contribute. It's the way of the future, the way of the future, the way of the future, the way of the future... .... 23:34, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • If any deleted userpages need to be undeleted so they can be moved to the fanon wiki or the guestbook wiki, I'd be willing to undelete them temporarily. I'd keep them for 24 hours, then redelete. —Silly Dan (talk) 00:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
