Gaftikar was a planet in the Outer Rim. Omega Squad was stationed there for some time during the Clone Wars. It was the site of the Battle of Gaftikar, which started with attacking the capital city of Eyat City.

It was speculated by Omega Squad that the Republic wasn't attacking the planet so much for the war effort or to help the Marits, but rather as a favor to the Shenio Mining corporation, who were interested in the gaining greater economical control over the planet.

The local population consisted of the lizard-like Marits and Humans, neither species was native to the planet, but rather, the Marits had been hired by the Humans to create their cities for them, due to the Marits high reputation of being skilled mathematicians and natural engineers. After the completing construction, the Marits were exiled into the forests by the Humans, with almost no contact between the two species. However, the Humans had great fear of the Marits, afraid that they would someday up-rise and take control of the planet. In truth, the Marits only wanted proportional representation in the government and equal rights.

It is worth noting that there were significantly more Marits than there were Humans.
