Galactic Empire Network, or GEN for short, is an online Star Wars fan community that has been online, off and on, for the past nine and a half years. It is one of the founding members of S.W.O.R.A., the Star Wars Outer Rim Alliance.

[edit] History
GEN was started in 1999 to compliment a friendly rivalry on the alt.fan.starwars (AFS) News Group between the Rebels and Imperials in some half-hearted role-playing. The site was originally hosted with ACMEcity, a subsidiary of Warner Bros.
Armed with no experience, webmaster and wannabe actor, Stephen G. Harrogate-Bramley (Darth Palpy) promptly created a page with some rough ideas as to what the site would contain. He had never attempted web pages before so everything was pretty basic... after a few words of advice from an internet friend, Anthony Marcarelli, he began the long haul, learning from his mistakes... and there were plenty.
He first designed the site with Netscape Composer, quickly learned of its limitations... attempted Front-page Express... didn't like it, and then discovered Dreamweaver by Macromedia and has stuck with it ever since.
As the site has grown, it has changed servers and hosts several times. It has also gone through various names changes. In May 2000, the site dropped the "A.F.S. Galactic Empire" tag to, simply, Galactic Empire.Net. In October of 2000 the name Galactic Empire Network was finally brought into being, before being changed to Galactic Empire UK (GE:UK) at the end of 2001 and then to simply Galactic Empire in September of 2002.
And the site went on its merry way, before closing its doors in late 2005. But GEN came back.
[edit] New beginning
After taking a break from the internet for some months, in December 2006, motivated by a new product from Infopop (ubb.Threads) and also, the fact that he actually missed his online friends and the Star Wars community, Stephen decided to restart GEN. This time he has promised himself, that no matter what, even if it means maintaining the site for just a handful of people, he won't give up on it.
