[edit] Biography

[edit] Early life

Ganner Krieg was an Imperial Knight in the service of the Fel Empire. His best friend during this time was Antares Draco. Sometime during his career as a Knight, he and Draco were both awarded the title of Master.

[edit] Second Imperial Civil War

After the Sith-Imperial War, the One Sith had seized control of the Empire. A loyal knight, Krieg remained loyal to the Emperor.

At some point after the war ended, a Jedi Padawan named Azlyn Rae was rescued by an unknown Imperial Knight. Rae ended up joining the Knights to complete her training. During this time, Ganner developed feelings for her.

In 137 ABY, he, along with Draco, was part of a group of Knights who escorted Emperor Roan Fel to Bastion, capital of the Empire prior to its move to Coruscant.

He later accompanied Draco, against the Emperor's wishes, to Vendaxa where they attempted to rescue Princess Marasiah Fel from the Sith Lords. There he demonstrated skillful prowess in lightsaber combat against several of the Sith seeking Marasiah Fel's capture, although he was unable to prevent her from being gravely wounded while saving the life of Cade Skywalker.

After they escaped from Vendaxa, Krieg explained to Draco that despite the efforts of the Jedi, more skillful healers than themselves, Marasiah was dying. He, along with everyone else aboard Mynock, witnessed Cade Skywalker's restoration of life to Marasiah while in route to Bastion.

After arriving at Bastion, he and Draco were scolded by the Emperor for disobeying his orders. However, instead of giving them a punishment, he had them awarded with medals. After the awards ceremony, Fel sent them to the Wheel as guards for Captain Mingo Bovark, who was discussing a possible alliance between Fel's Empire and the Galactic Alliance Remnant with Admiral Gar Stazi of the Core Forces. Unfortunately, the negotiations were sabotaged by Sith agents, who used C.O.L.D. droids to force their own shuttles to fire on each other. As a result, the Alliance came to believe Fel's empire tried to trap them, and all of Roan Fel's forces were permanently banished from the Wheel.

Ganner, Draco and a fully knighted Marasiah were later sent to locate Skywalker. The team ended up being led to a hidden Jedi Temple where they found both Skywalker and the Jedi High Council. The Council agreed to negotiate an alliance with Fel when they were told about his innocence in the Sith-Imperial War. During this time, Cade Skywalker proposed a plan to assassinate Krayt. While the Jedi Council rejected it, Krieg, along with Rae and Draco went with Skywalker while Marasiah continued to negotiate with the Jedi.

Halfway to Had Abbadon, the Mynock came upon a derelict Destroyer in the Deep Core. Upon investigating, they meet a millennia-years old Knight of the Old Republic, Celeste Morne, who wore a Sith amulet known the Muur Talisman, which could convert non-Force sensitives into rakghouls. Fel was intrigued by the thought of controlling monsters under his command. Though a loyal Imperial Knight, he wasn't as subservient to Roan Fel as best friend Antares Draco, reminding him that it was the Force they ultimately served through the Emperor, and that should he ever fall to the Dark Side, it was their job to either bring him back from it - or remove him from power.

Although the mission to assassinate Krayt ended in success, Rae was mortally wounded during the fight. Cade and his crew agreed to take her to his aunt Droo to be healed. Krieg objected, saying that as an Imperial Knight, Rae belonged with them. But Shado Vao force-pushed him and Draco away, saying Azlyn was a Jedi before joining the Imperial Knights. Cade and his friends departed before Krieg could do anymore to interfere.

Draco and Krieg returned to Bastion to report on the success of their mission. However, Fel heard from his sources that Krayt was in stasis on Korriban and was very much displeased that the Talisman was destroyed. Krieg justified the Talisman's devastating powers that converted their own troops into monsters. Fel stated that nothing was too evil to use against the Sith, especially against the soldiers who serve them. He send Krieg to retrieve Azlyn from Kiffex, who was very angry that she was locked in a cyborg armor, thanks to Cade's selfishness.

[edit] Personality

Ganner Krieg was very devoted to Roan Fel, though he was willing to defy Fel's orders and join Antares Draco in the rescue of Princess Marasiah Fel. He also was closer to being a Jedi than several other Knights, evidenced by his ability to see the evil in the Muur Talisman when Emperor Fel wanted to use it and his statement that the Imperial Knights ultimately serve the light side of the force.

Krieg, unlike some other members of the Imperial Knights, was not critical of the Jedi. He even commented that Shado Vao's lightsaber skills were good.

[edit] Relationships

[edit] Azlyn Rae

Azlyn Rae was a former Jedi Padawan who joined the Imperial Knights after the Battle of Coruscant. Her training was completed by the Knights, and she became one herself.

Sometime between 130 and 137ABY, Ganner developed romantic feelings for Azlyn. While Azlyn said that she was aware of Ganner's feelings for her, she also told him that their duty as Imperial Knights would always keep them apart. Despite this, Ganner remained emotionally attached to her.

During a mission to assassinate Krayt, Azlyn began to show signs of wavering loyalty in the aftermath of reuniting with her old Jedi companions. Draco said he may have to kill her for this, to which Ganner angrily responded that he would have to kill him first. Ganner later defended Azlyn from Draco when he attacked her for trying to interfere with retrieving the Muur Talisman.

Azlyn was taken to Kiffex to be healed after she was mortally wounded on Had Abbadon. Ganner was charged with retrieving her by Emperor Fel. When he found her, he saw she had been placed in a life-preserving suit of armor. Ganner did not seem appalled by this at all, and warmly said he would bring her back home.

[edit] Behind the scenes

Dark Horse comics illustrator/author Jan Duursema based Krieg's appearance on the costume artist Thomas J. Spanos.[1][2]

"Krieg" is the German word for "war".

An action figure of Ganner Krieg was released in 2008 as part of Hasbro's Comic Pack line, along with Antares Draco and with a reprint of part five of Broken.[3]
