Gate Master was a title used by the Jedi Order during the time of the Galactic Republic. One of three Jedi ranks within the Jedi Temple Security Force, it was bestowed upon the Jedi Peacekeeper tasked with guarding the four main entrances of the Temple on Coruscant. These entrances included the Promenade entrance, the public entrance, the administrative rear entrance, and the south entrance. The Gate Master oversaw the appointment of Padawan guards to oversee the entrances by day, and Jedi Knights from the Security Force to watch by night.^[1]

As of the Clone Wars, Gate Master Jurokk had held the position for a considerable length of time. Remaining at the Temple throughout the war, Jurokk as well as Jedi High Council member Jedi Master Shaak Ti were placed in charge of securing the Temple as Master Mace Windu set out to arrest the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic for being a Sith Lord. While awaiting Windu's return, Jurokk was instead greeted at the main entrance by Jedi Anakin Skywalker and the 501st Legion. Looking out over the occupied Processional Way, Jurokk realized too late that Skywalker had fallen to the dark side of the Force. Stabbed through the head with Skywalker's lightsaber, Jurokk died before he could sound the alarm to warn the rest of the Temple.^[2]
