The Ghost Nebula was a nebula in the Expansion Region that surrounded the planet Umbara, homeworld of the Umbarans. This cloud blocked out most of the stars beyond, and within it, creating ultraviolet radiation from massive stars at its center that ionized the surrounding gases to form plasma, and in turn bathed the planets within the Nebula in their ultraviolet light. This changed the species there to be sensitive to ultraviolet light, and to be immune to radiation.
