The giant wampa was an unusually large wampa from the planet Hoth. It was also known to laugh when injuring an opponent. It is unknown whether it was a member of a whole sub-species separate from wampas or if it was a genetic mutation causing an abnormal increase in size.

The giant wampa appears in the game Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back as the first boss of the game, fought by Luke Skywalker. The giant wampa was so large that only its head and arms were visible on screen. The giant wampa attacked by extending one arm to the middle of the screen to slash, then exhaling a blast of frigid air that could freeze an opponent. When its enemy was hit and frozen, the wampa often laughed.
