Gibad was one of the few planets that defied Emperor Palpatine shortly after the formation of the Galactic Empire. Home to parks and beautiful cities, the Gibadan Academy of Life Sciences was a well respected university in the Outer Rim.

When the planet refused to cooperate after the Empire's given deadline, Palpatine unleashed a virus on the world created by Separatist scientist Ovolot Qail Uthan, who was a native of the planet. As all the galaxy watched the destruction of the Human population of the planet, the Empire released a statement saying that the world would be ready for re-population within the year.
