Gingal was a Mon Calamari who served as the New Republic's Watch Commander at the Xyquine base. As Pash Cracken's commanding officer, he was prepared to order a retreat from Xyquine when Imperial forces attacked; it was the quick counter order by Cracken that allowed the bulk of the fleet to be saved. This maneuver went on to be named the Cracken Twist.
