"Although the Clone Wars were over, some people never seem to get the message. The worst case of denial was Gizor Delso [sic], a Geonosian Separatist who'd somehow escaped Lord Vader's efforts to wipe out the remnants of the CIS."
―Unidentified 501st stormtrooper[src]

Gizor Dellso was a male Geonosian engineer who worked for the Confederacy of Independent Systems and helped design a signal to shut down the droid army to prevent anyone from using the Confederacy's battle droids against them. Following the end of the Clone Wars and the dissolution of the Confederacy in 19 BBY, Dellso refused to surrender. On the planet Mustafar, he found a secret droid factory near an abandoned Confederacy bunker. Dellso started up the factory and began producing an army of droids, hoping to restart the Clone Wars. Between 18 and 12 BBY, however, the Imperial 501st Legion was sent to Mustafar to eliminate Dellso and end his rebellion. Following a pitched battle, Dellso was killed, and the facility was destroyed.

Biography

"By the time we'd made our way to the molten surface of Mustafar, it was apparent that Delso [sic] had been a busy little bug. All by his lonesome, he'd found a previously hidden droid factory, fired it up and cranked out his own private army of battle droids."

The male Geonosian Gizor Dellso was an engineer on Geonosis,[2] home to Geonosian Industries. This company, controlled by Archduke Poggle the Lesser, was responsible for producing thousands of battle droids.[3] At the wishes of the Trade Federation, one of the company's main customers, Dellso helped design a signal override to shut down the company's droid army that could be used in case enemies ever attempted to use their droids against the Trade Federation.[1] Following the formation of the Confederacy of Independent Systems in 24 BBY,[4] Dellso, like all his people, joined the movement. In 22 BBY, the Clone Wars broke out. Dellso continued to fight against the Galactic Republic until the war ended in 19 BBY and the Confederacy's battle droids were shut down by the signal Dellso had designed.[2]

Following the war's end and the Confederacy's dissolution, Dellso traveled to the Confederacy's secret bunker on the Outer Rim planet of Mustafar, determined to continue the fight. He had with him a set of experimental plans for a prototype starfighter that he had managed to steal from the Galactic Empire, the government that had replaced the Republic.[5] On Mustafar, Dellso was able to not only locate an abandoned droid production factory, but to restart it as well, producing a number of battle droids and starships. He also designed a prototype battle droid, which he planned to put into action for his rebellion. In creating a new droid army, Dellso became the leader of one of the last Separatist holdouts.[2]

Sometime between 18 and 12 BBY, the Empire became aware of the threat that Dellso posed. Seeking to end the rebellion before it could develop into a full-fledged war, Emperor Palpatine dispatched the elite 501st Legion to eliminate Dellso and destroy his droid army. The 501st was confronted in space by Dellso's fleet. However, the legion was able to destroy a number of droid starfighters, cripple Dellso's flagship, a Providence-class carrier/destroyer, and steal a Belbullab-24 strike bomber. The legion then landed on the planet. Though Dellso's army fought to repel the stormtroopers and keep his rebellion alive, they were unable to do so. Determined to prevent the Clone Wars from occurring again, the Empire's forces defeated those of Dellso and destroyed the prototype battle droid schematics. Dellso realised that the battle was lost to him and, accompanied by his bodyguards, attempted to flee. As the Imperials fought with the remains of his droid army, Dellso entered the fray armed with a Bulldog RLR and rained heavy fire down upon the Imperial forces, who were taken by surprise and suffred many losses as a result. However, the Imperials quickly recovered and rallied and though Dellso and his remaining entourage fought fiercely, they were ultimately overwhelmed and killed by the 501st. The Empire then bombarded Mustafar from space, destroying the factory and the last remnants of Dellso's army.[2]

Personality and traits

"Some fools don't know when to stay beaten."
―Unidentified 501st stormtrooper[src]

Gizor Dellso was a skilled engineer who helped design the override signal for the droid army. He was dedicated to the Separatist cause and refused to surrender after the Separatist Council's execution on Mustafar. He managed to steal plans for an experimental starfighter design from the Galactic Empire and began creating a new droid army after discovering a hidden factory on Mustafar. Dellso planned to use this new army to restart the Clone Wars. The Geonosian also created a prototype droid that he planned to use in his fight against the Empire. Despite his loyalty to the Separatist cause, he was ultimately unsuccessful.[2]

Behind the scenes

Gizor Dellso was created for the video game Star Wars: Battlefront II, where his name is spelled "Gizor Delso." However, the official Star Wars Databank, as well as The New Essential Guide to Alien Species and The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, spell his name "Gizor Dellso." This article assumes that "Dellso" is correct.
